During our recess breaks, we have a number of staff completing yard duty, supporting students outside. Yard duty teachers are wearing either a yellow or pink vest - which can easily be seen in the school yard. This duty allows teachers to build relationships with many students across all levels of the school. From Foundation students to Year Six, we are playing 25 'star jumps', assisting in footy / basketball decisions, supporting dis-regulated behaviours, and celebrating students trying new games. Concerts are presented, games are shared and kids are playing and having fun.
While on duty on the oval, I (Miss Humphries), saw a beautiful moment during a game of football. A year two student was tying the shoe laces of his best mate. A simple yet respectful moment between friends. It filled my bucket and reminded me why I love teaching at Upwey South!
Here are a few more photos from around the school yard. I also snuck in my AFL 9s team from the Year 5/6 Winter sports day. So much fun.
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri elders, past, present and emerging for sharing this land that we teach, connect and learn upon.
We continue to walk together to make a stronger future for this land we call home.
We greatly appreciate the elders for taking care of this amazing country.

Have you seen our Lyrebirds in the Foyer? During the term, these lyrebirds will gain more and more feathers depending on how they are placed in the whole school House Point reward system. The more feathers the more points your house has got during the term. Below is a photo of where the houses are placed. Well done Waratah, you are in front at the moment. We still have many weeks in the term to gain more points and more feathers.
Lets work together to get the birds growing.
During Assembly in week four (yesterday) we had our Wattle House Leaders - Isabelle and Matilda, present their first Sports report and house points. Well done to both students who spoke clearly and confidently.
Well done to all students who have been working hard on getting house points. Well done to Mulga, it was great to see all the kids out in free dress on Friday 2nd May.

Thank you to all our school families for support our students on a positive start to Term Two. It has been a busy few weeks with Anzac Day, Yr3-6 Swimming, VSSS dance hub, whole school Cross-country and our Mother's Day afternoon. We seem to have settled into a good routine in week 4 with positive classroom environments and supportive interactions in the school yard.
In my position, I have the ability to spend time in all learning spaces. Seeing how the students are working with their teachers and working together with their peers, makes me proud to belong at Upwey South Primary.
We have a number of events coming up in the next few weeks. Please see the Compass calendar to be aware of these events.
