Year Two

Communicating with the Year Two Team
We look forward to partnering with you in 2025, and welcome your input:
When communicating with the Year Two team, please reach out via the below email addresses. Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact when requiring a discussion. You will usually see us outside the classrooms at the end of the day. This is the preferred time to catch us for a quick chat as we are focused on greeting the students before school.
Please also note that we have scheduled meetings at 3.45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Term Two Highlights:
Wear It Yellow:
On Friday 30th May, our school proudly took part in Wear It Yellow Day to support First Nations communities. Students and staff wore yellow to raise awareness and funds for education and equity. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and show our support together.
Term Two
The students have been focused on demonstrating the school values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and RESILIENCE.
InitiaLit in Term Two:
This term has been a busy and productive one for our Year Two students. They have been working hard developing their skills in spelling, reading, grammar, and writing as part of the English Curriculum.
Spelling:
The focus for this term has been reading and spelling words that contain the digraphs ar, ey, ir, ow and also the sounds of /y/ and /k/.
Segmenting sounds and blending them together over multi-syllable words is an explicit reading and spelling skill that the students have been working on.
Reading:
During our comprehension lessons we have been learning strategies to apply to our Read And Discuss books. These strategies have included: connecting, visualising and asking questions. We are practicing reading with fluency and expression while noticing punctuation in the texts we read.
For our Storybook lessons we have been making predictions and answering literal and inferential questions about the text to further our comprehension of a text.
This term we have read the following texts:
Grammar:
During grammar lessons, students have been learning about adjectives, nouns, noun groups, pronouns, and verbs. They have been applying this knowledge by incorporating these elements into their writing to make it more detailed and engaging.
Writing:
This term we have been focusing on narratives as a text type. We have looked at the elements of a narrative text: characters, setting, problem and solution. The students have used different graphic organisers to summarise stories, and to plan their own narrative text. We have created our own characters and described a setting using sensory details (see, hear, touch, taste and smell). The students also created artwork inspired by the Collecting Colour text. They described their artwork using adjectives and sensory details.
Inquiry - Term Two 2025
'Then and Now'
Students are exploring the history of our local community and how it has changed over time. We are learning about changes from Indigenous peoples to the colonial years, and comparing then to now. We are covering changes in fashion, toys, transport, food, technology and family life. Students are exploring the effect of changing technology on people’s lives. We will investigate how the lives of our first nations peoples have changed.
Students will look at the similarities and differences between the past and the present.
During this unit, students will look at the changes in toys over time.
Weekly Timetables:
*May alter due to school events
Home Reading
Thank you to all the students who are remembering to bring their reading diary and green wallet into school every Monday for book swapping and checking. New Term Two diaries have been handed out to children who have brought their green wallets to school for borrowing.
We are currently auditing our books for home reading and looking at making some new additions to the student reading material.
