Communicating with the Year One Team
We are very happy to be partnering with you in 2025, and welcome your input:
When communicating with the Year One team, please reach out via the below email addresses. Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact when requiring a discussion. You will usually see us outside the classrooms at the end of the day. This is the preferred time to catch us for a quick chat as we are focused on greeting the students before school.
Please also note that we have scheduled meetings at 3.45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

InitiaLit - Term Two 2025
During Term Two, the students have been consolidating new sounds and words during InitiaLit lessons. We have learnt some new tricky words and are working hard to make sure we practice any chance we get! Please look at the tricky words at the bottom of this page for you to use at home. During InitiaLit, the students enjoy writing super sentences on whiteboards. Over the last three weeks, we have introduced new terminology to the students, such as the different types of suffixes and being able to identify long and short vowel sounds. We have learnt a lovely little song that reminds us how to spell 'because'. The students enjoy the established routine of starting their days with InitiaLit.
Writing - Term Two 2025
During Term Two, we have covered three units of writing. During the first five weeks, we covered and learnt all about recount writing. The students wrote their recount about a special event and learnt about the importance of using time connectives to order their events. We have just finished leaning all about informative writing. The students gathered information about an Australian animal and wrote paragraphs using a topic sentence and factual sentences. Students have just began writing procedures. This week we wrote the procedure for making a pizza.
Wear It Yellow Day - Term Two 2025
On Friday, 30th May, the students wore yellow. This is a very important initiative run by the registered charity, 'Children's Ground' and falls during Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June 2025). 'Children’s Ground' supports Indigenous communities by providing children with opportunities to grow up strong in their identity, language and culture. The fundraiser raises money to provide resources such as books in a community’s own language, education, health and employment opportunities
for First Nations people. Students showed their support last week by wearing YELLOW (either a little or a lot) and bringing along a gold coin donation.
Take Home Readers
All Year One students have been given their 'Home Reading Diary' for Term Two. Each week, your child is provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 3-4 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.
Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Monday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Monday.
Term Three Tricky Words
Please don't forget to practise 'tricky words'. These words have irregular spelling patterns and are often difficult for children to sound out, therefore need to be learnt through regular practise and repetition.
