3/4MK

Term 2 Has Been Terrific in 3/4MK!
We have had a big Term so far in 3/4MK. We farewelled Miss Savage after she had taught us for seven weeks and we are so thankful for everything she did for us. We welcomed back Mrs Moxon and Mrs Klupacs after their wonderful holidays and we enjoyed hearing all about their travels.
The Water Cycle
We began this term by learning about the Water Cycle. We learnt a lot of new vocabulary, such as “precipitation”, “condensation” and “transpiration”. We created our own posters which displayed our knowledge of what we learnt about the water cycle. We were very proud of our work.
Fractions
In Maths, we have been learning about Fractions. To finish the unit, we completed a Rich Task based on Fractions of a School Photo.
The task was:
It’s School Photo Day at SJV!
The photographer has captured every class, and now YOU have been given the special job of finding and showing the maths hidden in your class photo.
Your mission is to investigate fractions, decimals and percentages using your class photo.
You’ll need to think like a mathematician: observe, sort, represent, compare and explain!
We then collected our data, represented it as Fractions, reflected and explained and then we could also challenge ourselves to convert to Decimals and/or Percentages.
It was a fun task.
Measurement: Length, Perimeter & Area
We have also been learning about measuring length, perimeter and area with formal measurements. We have used rulers, metre long string and measuring tapes to estimate, order and measure many different things in our classroom and outside in the undercover area.
Parables
We have been looking at many different Parables. Some of the ones we have read are The Prodigal Son, The Mustard Seed, The Lost Sheep and The Rich Fool. We found out that a Parable is a story that has a moral or message which helps us to be more like Jesus.
