Principal Post

Dear Families,

Thank you to our 5-6 students and teaching team for their  'Space Expo', presentation held last Friday! It was brilliant and demonstrated a deep understanding of the content! Such a creative and interactive afternoon. Thank you to the many parents who came along to support their child and our school.

Public Holiday...

Next Monday 9th June  is the Kings birthday and a Public Holiday.

 No school on this day.

Staffing

Please note that Jenny Willmott will be taking LSL from the end of this week until the end of term 2. We wish her the best as she takes a well earned break!   In Jenny's absence, Bec Chan will be the Acting Deputy Principal across her 4 days. (Monday - Thursday) .

Buddy Bench

Look at our new Sticker for our Buddy Bench. Thanks to our dedicated SRC for organising this. It is a place to go when you can't locate someone to play with.

Social and Emotional Support

Please remind your child of  the importance of being kind in word and action. Sometimes our words and actions hurt others and we do not know to what degree. We do this without thinking of the other. Some students say "I was making a joke" or the other person knows "I don't mean it".  Talk with your children about being empathic.

If you have any concerns for your child the first course of action is to speak with your child's teacher.  If there has been a issue with another child that is of concern, and can not be solved by the students themselves, please bring this to the attention of the class teacher at the time of the issue so we can assist.  Of course as you are all aware, do not approach or speak with any other child or parent.

At school we have a Positive Behavior for Learning Program and we are part of the Resilience Program.

The school has a Student Wellbeing Leader.(Jenny Willmott).  We have various clubs to support wellbeing and use outside agencies where appropriate. The school  has a Learning Diversity Leader, (Jonathan Rooney) and a school counsellor 1 day a week (Jeff Edmond).

As you all know, I am also available to support students and families.

Our school is and will continue to be proactive in support of our students emotional and social wellbeing.

Some times issues can take some time to resolve.

Reminder action: Please continue to talk with your children about being kind to others

Pentecost

This coming Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost.  At Pentecost we remember how the Holy Spirit came to the disciples  who were gathered in the Upper room.

The Holy Spirit helped Jesus’ followers to courageously go out and share the good news about Jesus with many people, and so began the time of the Church.

At Pentecost we  are called to discern how we can use our gifts in service of others and for the glory of God. Perhaps we are a good listener, can show compassion, or have the gift of encouragement, leadership or mercy. May we pray to and be guided by the Holy Spirit as we celebrate this most wonderful feast.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

This week another Principal lunch was held. It is a wonderful opportunity  for students to  be acknowledged for their positive behaviour both in and out of the classroom. I had a brilliant time with our student guests.

There other ways students choose to be acknowledged using there tokens.

Patrick in grade 1/2  cashed in his tokens and was also acknowledged for Positive Behaviour by  choosing to play a song on the loudspeaker. Three students also chose a Canteen lunch.

St Vincent Winter Appeal

Please bring non perishable food items to school to collect for the St Vincent Winter Appeal. Our Mini Vinnies will be hosting a Crazy Hair and Hat day on Monday June 30th to thank students for supporting vulnerable members in the community who need our support over the winter.

GEM Awards

This week we had two winners of GEM awards. Aarush won an Empathy award For being a caring classmate to his peers and being respectful to everyone, by always using his manners.

Lia won a Gratitude award for the care and support she showed to her buddy on a weekly base.

Modelled Reading

The modelled reading program continues this week, and we had an excellent turnout. Thanks to parents who volunteered to help. If you wish to help with this program you do need a Working with Children. Please email: lwithers@sjvmulgrave.catholic.edu.au
