Around Ironside

News from 5B
Students in 5B are incredibly engaged with their learning and are very proud to share their work.
In English, we are reading The Callers to get inspiration to write our own fantasy stories. We are learning about the structure of a story, literary devices and writing summaries of chapters in The Callers. We are striving to improve our fluency and expression whilst we read.
In Maths, we are learning about angles and evolving our skills by using a protractor. We are able to identify different parts of angles. We are also learning about symmetry, rotation, translation and reflection of shapes and objects.
In Science, we are focusing on light. We have been conducting a number of experiments to develop our understanding of light, how shadows can change size. We are also investigating whether materials are transparent, translucent or opaque.
In HASS, we are learning about human and environmental characteristics of different places. We are developing our research skills and paraphrasing capabilities. As a part of our research, we have focused on finding accurate and reliable information. This research is helping us to make informed choices about where we would want to live.
News from our Deputy Principal, Mr Corbett
Congratulations to Sara Lim – Beginner Language Experience Program
I am delighted to share some wonderful news regarding one of our students, Sara Lim, who recently participated in the Beginner Language Experience online program, facilitated by the Global Engagement team within the Department of Education International.
Thanks to the support and endorsement of Rosa Alexis, Sara was accepted into the Easter holiday program, held from 7th–11th April 2025.
During this week-long experience, Sara embraced the opportunity to learn Spanish, engaging enthusiastically in online lessons while developing her global awareness and intercultural understanding.
This was a significant commitment on Sara’s behalf and her conduct, engagement and enthusiasm were exemplary, reflecting the strong values and leadership we hold dear at Ironside State School.
