Principal's Message

Term 2 Week 5                                                                                19 May 2025.

From the Principal

Hi Everyone,

It is week 5 and we are heading towards the middle of the term; I find that unbelievable!!

We have had another busy week just gone and this one is shaping up that way too.

The Junior Strings Extravaganza was last week with our smallest musicians joining forces with Indooroopilly State School for a whole day workshop to really hone their skills.  The concert at the end of the day was a testament to the great work done together.

Thank you to all of the children for working so hard, to their parents for your support and to Mrs Trudy Weekes and Mrs Kellie Wilson for your expertise and care that goes into teaching our children.

Some very lucky students are getting to see the Queensland Symphony Orchestra this week; I am very jealous, but they deserve it.

Thank you to Rotary Volunteers and a King’s College student Hugo who volunteered and came and helped put together another load of donations ready to be shipped to a foreign country in need.

Shout-outs must go to our new Groundsman Mr Bytschewsky who worked tirelessly with us too.

We really appreciate this support for such a good cause, thanks everyone!

I am thinking the excitement must be building for our Year 6 children about the Canberra Camp Trip coming up in Term 3, especially after the Parent Information Night last week.  Thank you to Mr Corbett and the Year 6 Team for putting this valuable session on.  It is bound to be a wonderful experience.

Congratulations to all of our Year 4-6 Merit Award recipients from last week’s assembly!

It was wonderful to hear the Year 4, 5 & 6 Choir perform on assembly, they have only had a few opportunities to practice since forming and they sounded wonderful.

Tomorrow there is a Choral Workshop to get ready for Fanfare which is coming up on the 29th May!

At next week’s assembly we will get to hear the Year 1 Choir.

Thank you so much to Mrs Marianne Huxley and Mrs Kellie Wilson for your time, dedication and expertise in teaching our children.

We are looking forward to National Simultaneous Storytime this week.  The focus book is The Truck Cat by Deborah Fenkel and Danny Snell.

We are all excited to see the final entries in the Snap that Book Competition too.  We thank our wonderful librarians Mrs Annika Sauvage and Ms Catherine Roach for putting it all together for us to enjoy.

Many great things are going on all the time in the sporting arena and this week children are getting to trial for district baseball and softball teams, last week it was tennis.  All the very best to those children trialling.

We also have interschool and rotational sport happening this Friday and I want to thank Mr Reardon, and all of the staff involved for your support for our children to be involved in these great experiences.

The Year 5 Debating Team auditions are this Wednesday at 3pm.  All the very best to those children trying out.  Debating is such a wonderful pursuit to be involved in.

In staff news, we sadly said goodbye to Mrs Emma Zonca last week.  Mrs Zonca has taught at Ironside State School for 12 years and has been very involved in our school community as both a staff member and a parent.  It has been lovely to read all of the wonderful feedback from children, parents and staff expressing how much Mrs Zonca means to them.  I want to thank Mrs Zonca for all she has done for Ironside State School and wish her all the best for the future.  I want to welcome Mrs Michelle Bingley who is now taking Mrs Zonca’s year 2 class.  Mrs Bingley is a very experienced teacher, and she has worked very hard to transition into Ironside State School.

Have a safe and wonderful week.

Yours in Education,

Angie Kelly

Principal

PS: A reminder that as a school, we welcome all children in at 8:30am.  Some children come earlier if they are involved in sport, music or they go to Outside School Hours Care.  School ends at 3pm, please ensure you have collected your child by 3:15pm at the latest.  Children who can be at our school after 3:15pm have a particular activity they are attending, or they attend OSHC.

All children not collected by 3:15pm will be taken to the office.  If you can’t get your children by 3:15pm regularly, you need to enrol your children in OSHC.  If you need to drop your children to school before 8:30am due to your working, you need to enrol them in OSHC please.  Thank you for ensuring this happens.
