German Language Week in May 2025
The Goethe-Institut in Australia and New Zealand have initiated a focus on the German language in May supported by the Association of German Teachers of Victoria Inc. The Goethe-Institut is a worldwide organisation promoting German language and culture.
German is the official language of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Belgium, Luxembourg and South Tyrol in Italy. It is also one of the official languages of the European Union, and spoken throughout the world as a first or second language.
German is the fifth most identified European ancestry in Australia behind English, Irish, Scottish and Italian.
German is an important language of science, technology, engineering, commerce and the arts.

German Language Week is an annual event aimed at celebrating and promoting the German language and culture. The German Language Week will take place between May 1 and May 31.
Our school is participating in German Language Week by saying a tongue twister at the senior school assembly on Monday the 2nd of June!
The tongue twister is:
Der Mondschein schien schon schön!
(The moonlight was already shining beautifully!)
