Learning In My Level

Level 3
Level 3 students have continued to be active and engaged learners throughout Term 2. We have had a busy term so far, with highlights including our swimming program in Week 3, ongoing Flora and Fauna rotations, and some exciting exploration of the Solar System. A big thank you to all the families who joined us for Open Afternoon—it was wonderful to see so many of you getting involved in our Mathematics activities! We’re looking forward to a fun and productive end to the term and can’t wait to see you all again at our Student Led Conferences in Week 11.
Literacy
In Reading, students have been developing their comprehension skills by learning how to visualise and ask both thin (Literal) and thick (Inferential) questions. They’ve also enjoyed starting our reading rotations for the year. In Writing, we’ve begun exploring persuasive texts, with a lively discussion around whether Grade 3 students should have more homework!
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we’ve been focusing on multiplication and division strategies, helping students build fluency with number facts. We’ve also explored statistics, collecting and recording data in fun, hands-on ways. A favourite activity has been tracking and graphing basketball, netball, and soccer shots to learn about data representation and analysis.
Flora and Fauna
Our Flora and Fauna studies have centred around climate change, healthy eating, and sustainability. Students have enjoyed working in the school gardens and using fresh ingredients to make pumpkin and potato pizza! These activities have sparked some great conversations about where our food comes from and how we can care for the environment.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, we’ve launched into our Solar System unit, learning all about the planets, the sun, and space exploration. A highlight was our visit to the space dome incursion, which students found fascinating and fun. They especially enjoyed the immersive experience of looking at planets and stars up close in the inflatable dome!
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, students have been learning how building mindfulness practices into their day can help them feel more connected, stay calm, and make positive choices. They’ve also been exploring the Catastrophe Scale as a useful tool to better understand the size of a problem, helping them to pause, gain perspective, and respond in a thoughtful and balanced way.

Level 4
Level 4 News – Moving Along Nicely
We are now almost two full terms into level 4! Routine and expectations have been fully established, and relationships have been built and are continuing to be strengthened. Here is a little snapshot as to what’s been happening in Level 4!
Scienceworks/Inquiry
4T & 4W began their term by heading off on an exciting Scienceworks excursion, with 4J & 4M due to attend in Week 7. Students were exposed to topics relating to night & day, forces & friction, and various elements of chemical sciences. A wonderful day was had and it provided a great link to our two inquiry topics for this term, “Night & Day” and “Forces & Friction”.
Swimming
In Week 4 we had swimming! Students were instructed about various skills required to keep them safe in and around water, while also providing technique corrections for those students ready to extend their skills. The final day was filled with fun and games as the swim staff gave the students a very memorable end to the swimming program.
Maths – Multiplication & Division
In Maths we complete a ‘Stain Glass Window’ project that related to our topic of angles. Students learned about all the different types of angles and how to identify them. They then brainstormed a stain glass window design, shared it with a group, voted on the most appealing one, then shaded it in with colour. Upon finishing, groups took their design outside, replicated it on the ground with masking tape and coloured it in with chalk. The final product was a wonderful piece of art that they took a photo of and labelled the angles on Seesaw.
Writing – Narratives
In Writing we are having a great time learning crucial skills for writing narratives that are engaging and enjoyable to read. We started the term with our whole school ‘Glitter’ writing piece and have since converted that to a digital copy. Each week we learn a new skill like ‘Show, Don’t Tell’, ‘Sizzling Starts’, ‘Dynamic Dialogue’, and how to effectively plan, then we apply these new skills to our ‘Glitter’ piece to bump it up.
Reading – Asking Questions & Visualising
In Reading we have been learning about asking questions while we read (also known as ‘wonderings’). We learned that there are two types of questions, Thick and Thin, and it’s the Thick questions that really get us thinking deeply about our text and pushing the limits of our comprehension.
