Level 3 Science Discovery Dome
As part of their Inquiry unit on The Solar System, our Level 3 students participated in an exciting hands-on incursion led by a visiting space science expert. This interactive session was held entirely in a inflatable dome, that was set up in the school Library.
Within this dome, students were able to deepen their understanding of how Earth’s rotation and revolution around the Sun causes day and night, as well as the changing seasons. Students explored how sunlight affects our planet and discovered why the Moon appears to shine even though it doesn’t produce its own light.
This fabulous incursion allowed our students to make real-world connections to their scientific understanding of space and spark further curiosity about our place in the Solar System.
Foundation Myuna Farm Excursion
To coincide with the Term 2 Farm Inquiry Unit, on Wednesday the 21st May, the Foundation students were excited to visit Myuna Farm in Doveton. Myuna Farm is a working community and children's farm with a history dating back to the 1900s.
Foundation students had a wonderful day taking part in a variety of activities with the educators to learn about farms and farm animals. The animal nursery was extremely popular as was the milking demonstration.
Thank you to all of our parent helpers on the day.
Level 5/6 Reading Incursion
On Wednesday 21st May, our Level 5 and Level 6 students participated in an informative session with our local book expert, Erin Wamala from The Kids Bookshop in Mitcham. Students were able to discuss the latest book recommendations.
Foundation Tiddalick the Frog Incursion
As a part of our First Nations curriculum, the Foundation students were delighted to participate in the Dreamtime story of Tiddalick the Frog, on Wednesday 28th May.
Using performance, music and storytelling techniques, the Drama Toolbox incursion allowed students to become immersed in the story. Students became local fauna, emus, frill-necked lizards, wombats, koalas, kangaroos, cockatoos and kookaburras and explored the importance of sharing water and natural resources.
Changes to Mathematics Reporting 2025
With the VCAA release of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, from 2025, schools are required to report one overarching teacher judgement (Progression Point) in Mathematics. In previous years students would receive a teacher judgement against the three mathematical strands of Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability.
This year in Mathematics, your child will only receive one teacher judgement against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single aggregated score. As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress (one dot only). For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.
We hope that our new reporting format will be clearer and provide a comprehensive understanding of achievement. We welcome the opportunity to discuss your child’s report at our Student Led Conferences in the week commencing 30th June 2025
