It has been another wonderful fortnight of learning at Rangeview! Level 3 experienced the Discovery Dome, our JSC have met, we held National Simultaneous Story Time, Level 5/6 had a Reading Incursion, members of leadership attended the RRRR Inner East Forum, Level 3/4 Book Club met, we commemorated National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, Level 3/4 competed in Hoop Time, select students competed at Division Cross Country, Foundation went to Myuna Farm and had the Tiddalick the Frog incursion, members of the leadership team attended the Riversdale Principal Conference, and our whole school celebrated Education Week with an Open Afternoon.
Education week was celebrated in Victoria this year from 19th May to 23rd May with the theme of Celebration of Cultures which highlights the diversity of our communities and the importance of every child feeling safe and welcome at school.
At Rangeview our students worked on a piece of creative writing with the writing prompt 'Glitter' and these were displayed around the school and in our school Library for our Open Afternoon. Our leadership team used some enrolment data to create a World Map data display representing the Languages Spoken at Home for our families.
It was wonderful to see so many parents and family members come to the school to visit classrooms and specialist areas to witness the learning of their young people. We finished the afternoon with a musical performance which showcased our two school choirs, our band, our string orchestra, and our rock band.
A huge thank you to all of the staff for their work to celebrate our Open Afternoon, especially Megan Campbell for organising the musical performances and Marita Horvath for her work on our whole school writing piece.
Every year on 26 May, National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country.
At Rangeview we are recognised National Sorry Day on Monday 26th May with developmentally appropriate lessons in classrooms. Our Cultural Captains read a section of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's National Apology over the PA system for all students to hear and we had a minutes silence.

Following National Sorry Day we have recognised Reconciliation week. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme this year is Bridging Now to Next and reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
Rangeview is creating a whole school visual display related to the 2025 theme ‘Bridging Now to Next’. Each class has completed the Reconciliation leaf to reflect on what we are doing now to be part of Australia’s Reconciliation journey [Now we…] and some ideas of how we can continue to appreciate and embrace our First Nations cultures [Next we…].
Our wonderful Marrung Leads Jen Bonte and Kyla Petrilli will be putting together this wonderful whole school display. We thank them for all of their work in this space for our school.
Today we’re excited to raise money again for Children’s Ground for their ‘Wear it Yellow’ campaign. Students were encouraged to wear a splash of yellow and bring along a gold coin donation for Children’s Ground!
On Wednesday 21st May our Foundation students went to Myuna Farm to learn about animals and their care. This connects to their Inquiry Unit at school around Life on the Farm. The students interacted with a variety of animals and some got to milk a cow! There was plenty of learning and also plenty of fun.
On Wednesday 21st May our Level 5 and 6 students had a wonderful Reading Incursion presented by Erin Walama from The Kids Bookshop in Britannia Mall, Mitcham. www.thekidsbookshop.com.au
Erin is a wonderful presenter and has an outstanding knowledge of children's literature. She was able to direct our young readers to titles, authors and series that they have not yet discovered.
On Monday 26th 22 of our Rangeview students were qualified to compete in the Division Cross Country at Ruffey Lake. In beautiful weather our competitors did amazingly well with 8 students qualifying for Regionals in June. Congratulations to all of the students who competed and well done for representing yourselves and Rangeview so well.
Thank you to Mitch Clark and Meg Hubbard for supporting our students to come this far and for building up our distance runners with our amazing Run Club.
We congratulate Collette C who has been selected to compete for Team Victoria in the National Basketball Championships later this year. We are all so proud of your achievements Collette and wish you the best of luck.
