Learning In My Level

Level 1 Learning In My Level
Level 1 has had a fabulous start to Term 1 2025! Students have been adjusting to their new class, forming friendships and contributing to a positive classroom environment. It has been a busy first term with many events such as Harmony Day, whole school Cross Country, Hands on Science Weather Incursion, Little Learners ‘Beach Camp Day’ and more.
Literacy
Students have enjoyed engaging in the ‘Little Learners Love Literacy’ phonics program. We have explored the long vowel sounds including the long a (ai, ay), long e (ee, ea, _ _ y), long i (y, igh, ie) and long o (oa) sounds. A big thank you to our parent helpers that have come into the classroom to support students’ reading, we greatly appreciate your support.
Level 1 had a lot of fun celebrating our learning on the ‘Beach Camp day’. Students dressed up in beach attire and participated in activities related to the different sounds.
In our Writing lessons, we have learnt how to write a recount. Students have been writing recounts each week about their weekend. We have been focusing on simple punctuation, letter spaces between words, correctly forming letters, trying to include transition words and more. In Writing we have also been looking at narratives. Recently we have been looking on the structure of a narrative (beginning, middle and end), as well as how to describe a character using adjectives.
Students have been developing their skills in Speaking and Listening. During ‘Show and Tell’ students have been presenting to the class about different topics such as introducing family, favourite hobby, three things you do to stay healthy and a free choice topic.
Mathematics
In Mathematics we have enjoyed exploring different concepts using whiteboards, games, hands on materials, working with others and more. This term we have had a big focus on Counting, Place Value and Addition. We have explored using a growth mindset in the math classroom, patterns, following directions, the learning pit, time, data collection and measuring the length of objects.
Wellbeing
Students have completed Resilience Project lessons and are learning about gratitude, empathy and mindfulness (GEM). Students also celebrated Safer Internet Day and are learning how to be responsible and safe online through the CyberSafety Project lessons.
Inquiry
In Inquiry students spent the first half of the term looking at the ‘Healthy Me’ topic. We learnt about healthy habits such as healthy foods, movement, sleep, hygiene and staying sunsmart. Students even brought fruit to share with the class and made their own fruit skewers!
In the second half of the term we focused on the Inquiry topic ‘Up Down and All Around’. Level 1 learnt about the seasons, features of the sky and landscape change over time. As part of our Inquiry Project students have been hard at work creating a diorama using a shoe box to show one of these changes over time. Students also attended an interesting incursion from Hands on Science. Students learnt about cloud formation, rain, temperature and erosion through group experiments.
Harmony Day
On Harmony students dressed in traditional attire or came wearing orange. We had a busy day of creating a whole-school smile on the oval, completing activities with our buddies, Bollywood dance and smoking ceremony. Thank you to everyone who contributed food to our cultural ‘Muncheon’.
LEVEL 2
Level 2 students have had a fantastic start to 2025! Students have been settling into their grade and making new friends. Students have helped set up positive classroom cultures by creating and agreeing to classroom expectations.
Literacy
Throughout the term, students have been developing their skills in Speaking and Listening. During ‘News Time’ students have been practising using a loud and clear voice to talk about different topics such as their holidays, favourite books, and their interests. We have also learnt how to be a good listener by practising full body listening.
In our Writing sessions, the students have been writing recounts and learning about the structure of a recount. We have looked at orientation sentences, body paragraphs and how to write a personal comment.
Students have also done amazing work with their spelling exploring long vowel sounds. A huge thank-you to all the parents that listen to and support students to read everyday!
Mathematics
Students have enjoyed a range of different topics this term during Mathematics. We have looked at place value for 3-digit numbers, 2D shapes, length, mass, capacity, statistics, addition and subtraction.
Inquiry
Through the Resilience Project lessons, we have been learning about Gratitude. Students have explored what the word means and what they are grateful for in their lives. To celebrate Harmony Day, students dressed in traditional costume or wore a splash of orange. They helped to create a whole school smile on the oval and spent time working on creative activities with their buddy. Thank you to all families for providing food for our cultural ‘Muncheon’, which was appreciated by all.
