The EVP had a tremendous showing at the Australian Beach Volleyball Schools Cup in Coolangatta this past weekend. Despite challenging weather conditions—including extreme winds, rain on Saturday, and intense heat on Sunday—our 113 athletes displayed exceptional determination throughout the three-day national championship tournament.
Our students competed and officiated in over 300 matches, achieving impressive results with 12 top-6 finishes, including 6 podium placements. These accomplishments demonstrate our athletes' ability to compete effectively against the country's best talent. As coaches, we're proud of how our EVP athletes represented TGSHS and demonstrated our values throughout the event.
The remarkable commitment our athletes showed while battling through difficult tournament conditions has provided valuable learning experiences that will continue to support their development throughout the remainder of the year. We look forward to seeing how these lessons translate into future success for our volleyball program.
Individual Athlete Development Focus
We are implementing comprehensive cohort testing designed to inform individualised performance planning with injury prevention as a primary focus for all students. This assessment works in conjunction with our strength and conditioning program to build resilience and athletic capability.
Our testing protocol evaluates key athletic metrics including vertical jump height, movement patterns, landing mechanics, and shoulder stability—all critical components for volleyball performance. These assessments help our coaching staff identify specific areas for improvement and potential injury risks unique to each athlete. The data collected allows us to create tailored training programs that address individual needs while building foundational strength. We are looking forward to seeing how this individualised approach to long term athletic development caters to the individuals within our program and works to ensure longevity in their sporting success.
Experience Day
We are looking forward to Experience Day in Week 2 of Term 2 (1st of May) where the EVP will have some exciting activations set up. Primary school students will have the opportunity to get a hands-on sense of what the Elite Volleyball Program is like through these engaging activities. This event provides a perfect introduction to our volleyball program for prospective students interested in joining the TGSHS community and we welcome all interested families to come and join the fun.
