Survival Guide to the School Holidays

The school holidays are just around the corner! While it's a great time to relax and recharge, it can also bring changes in routine, sleep, and activities. Here’s how you can make the most of your break:

Self-Care: After a busy term, take time to look after your wellbeing. Try activities like pampering, listening to music, getting enough sleep, spending time in nature, meditation, grounding/breathing exercises, setting boundaries, or engaging in arts and crafts.

Keep Active: Stay active by going for a walk, visiting your local park, or heading to the beach or pool. Fresh air and movement can do wonders for your mood and health.

Socialising Safely: If meeting someone new in person for the first time, think about your safety. Are you meeting in a public place? Do your parents or friends know where you are? Do you have location sharing on? If you ever feel unsafe, don’t hesitate to call Triple Zero (000) for police, fire, or ambulance assistance.

Ambulance Notes: If you or a friend experience a medical emergency, call an ambulance immediately. Paramedics are there to help and only notify police in cases of serious danger or death.

Mental Health Support: If you need someone to talk to, these resources are available:

Start a New Hobby: Holidays are a great time to pick up a new hobby! Whether it’s art, sports, or something creative, hobbies can help reduce stress and keep you engaged.

Gaming in ModerationGaming is a fun way to socialise, but balance is key. Take regular breaks, step outside for fresh air, and keep an eye on your screen time to maintain good mental and physical health.

Don’t Forget to Sleep!

A disrupted sleep routine can impact your wellbeing. Try to maintain a regular sleep-wake cycle, use “Do Not Disturb” settings, and aim for quality, uninterrupted rest. Your body will thank you when school starts again!

Enjoy the holidays and take care of yourself!

I cannot believe how quickly we have moved through Term 1, there has been a lot happening and it has been wonderful to continue building connections with our students and families.

Thursday Morning Toasted Program

Our Thursday Morning Toasted Program continues to be a highlight of the week for many students. It’s a great chance to start to the day with delicious toast in hand. The program has been growing in popularity, and we’re grateful for the positive feedback and support we’ve received. We encourage everyone to come along.

Year 7 Camp: Week 10

Looking ahead to Week 10, I am excited to be joining the Year 7 students for their annual camp! It’s a fantastic opportunity to get to know the students better. I’m especially excited about running some fun and engaging night game sessions.

Pancake Breakfast: A Huge Success

Last Wednesday, we hosted a Pancake Breakfast, and what a success it was! We served over 10kg of pancake batter. Special thanks to everyone who volunteered and made it possible. Events like this really highlight the spirit of community that we cherish here at The Gap State High School.

This Monday 31st is Eid Al-Fitr, also known as ‘the festival for breaking the fast,’ it is a festival to celebrate the end of Ramadan. During Ramadan, Muslims fast for 30 days from sunrise until sunset. On Eid, families will share a meal together, exchange gifts, wear new clothes and enjoy each other's company.

We want to extend a warm "Eid Mubarak" to those in our community that are celebrating.
