Building Update

Landscaping for Fergie Street
As the Junior playground build nears completion, we now turn our attention to another outdoor area: Fergie Street.
The stretch alongside the school building in Fergie Street offers so much potential. Adjoining Year 6 classrooms, and the Italian and Visual Arts spaces, our plan is to make this an outdoor learning space for the children to enjoy.
Just as we did with the Junior playground, we are involving students in the design of this project. Last term, we provided Grades 5 and 6 students with a brief asking questions such as:
- What can you design that will allow students to work outside comfortably and productively?
- When we first began the building project, the >100 year old gum tree was felled and the timber retained. How could you use this timber in your space to ensure we are acknowledging the elements of nature that came before us?
- As you can see from our Junior playground project, natural elements are incredibly important to us. Please ensure your design complements this concept.
- What kinds of plants do you think will add aesthetic appeal to this area?
- Please consider a name for this area.
Student voice is a strong focus for us here at the school and it is important that our students have opportunities to give their thoughts on various topics.
Soon, students will present their ideas to the landscape designer. By inviting the children to participate in the design process, we are also tying in with last term’s unit of learning, which was “How we organise ourselves”. We can’t wait to share the results with you in a few weeks!
Update: Ramp and Junior School playground
A reminder that we are currently undertaking mandatory upgrade work on the ramp outside The Hall. In good news, this project is running ahead of schedule and is now projected to complete mid- to end of Term 2.
In case you missed last term’s announcement, we were delighted to win a $25,000 grant to install a shade sail over the new play area. Once this is installed, the playground will be open for play in just under three weeks.
Best Street fence
In more good building news, the new fencing along Best Street is now complete.
The work has created a better bin storage area and is part of an ongoing project to make our school more secure and beautiful. As further funds are raised, we will continue to replace fencing around the rest of the school grounds.
