Junior School News

JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
It’s been a busy term so far in the junior school. Years 7, 8 and 9 have all been involved in respectful relationships education, undertaken by ‘Consent Labs’. In these sessions students learnt about the importance of consent when personally interacting with people and how this applies to the digital world.
Year 9 students have actively begun their learning about future pathways and the career options they may wish to pursue. With half of their secondary education almost complete, Year 9 students will have a lot more choice in the pathways and options they have in their education, for year 10 and beyond. The students have looked at their school data to help paint a picture of their academic strengths. They have also had the senior school pathway options explained to them. The students have also had an opportunity to visit the ‘Try a Trade’ event in Hastings to help them better understand the array of vocational pathways out there, either as further education or career options. Thanks to the senior school staff and careers staff for these opportunities, in what will be an exciting time for Year 9 students in contemplating the many options they have to fulfil their talents and desires. In the home groups that follow there will be career based activities for our Year 9 students which follow on from the enquiries they have made so far about future pathways.
During the last week of term one, and in the first couple of weeks of term two, we had several of our Year 7 students visit about 10 local primary schools, to promote Lyndale Secondary College to the grade 6 students, before they make their final decisions about what secondary school they will attend. Many of our year 7 students visited their own primary schools and were accompanied by either Mrs Hawkes, Ms Tusan, Mr Nettleingham or Mr. Wilson. Our students to a fantastic job in supporting the teacher and answering many of the questions that grade 6 students had for them.
To commemorate ANZAC day this year, two of our junior school captains, Dominique Perumal and Shanmukhi Ponnam, presented an inspiring and reflective speech over the school speaker system to the rest of the school. They conveyed a thoughtful and heartfelt tribute to Australian men and women who have fought for our country and our way of life. They each spoke very well and should be proud of their contribution as leaders within the school. Well done girls!
On the 24th April our school held its annual cultural day. It was great to see so many students proudly dress in their cultural attire partake in the activities and demonstrate the rich cultural harmony that exists at our school.
On Tuesday 6th April the school held its annual Athletics Carnival at the Knox athletic fields. Once again junior students represented their houses with pride, dressing in house colours and participating in the track and field events with enthusiasm. So many of our students reflected the school values of responsibility, resilience and respect on this day. Well done everybody.
A reminder to all students and families that being at school and in class on time is an important part of a student’s responsibility and shows respect for their own learning and the learning of others. If students are not in their period one class by the bell, then they are officially late and will need to go to room J2 to complete work. We still have quite a few students who are making a habit of not being in period one class, on time. If students have two incidences of this in a given week, then a phone call home will be made by year level co-ordinators. Three such occurrences will likely lead to consequences being issued. Please encourage your students take the responsibility to be at school on time. If there are genuine reasons that are making it difficult for your child to regularly be at school on time, please contact your child’s year level co-ordinators.

Year 9 Excursion – South East Careers Expo
On Tuesday 13th May, Year 9 students attended the South East Careers Expo, engaging with a wide range of industry, trade, and education stalls.
Students demonstrated excellent behaviour, showing respect and interest throughout the day. They asked relevant questions and interacted well with all exhibitors.
It was a valuable opportunity for students to explore future career options and pathways.
