Sunnyside Collaborative Art Project
On Tuesday, 25 March, our Year 5 students had the exciting opportunity to visit Sunnyside Kindergarten, a place that holds a special connection for many of our current and past students. It was a joy to see these bonds strengthen even further as our Year 5 students collaborated with the kindergarteners. The students participated in a creative art activity that allowed both groups to explore their artistic talents together. This experience highlights the importance of community connections and the powerful role of art in bringing people together. Not only did the activity provide a platform for creativity, but it also fostered collaboration, understanding, and no doubt special friendships, showing how art can nurture a sense of belonging within our community.
How lovely for some of our students to return to their kindergarten. We will continue to share photos of these students. George, Mia & Harriet from kindergarten days.
Abstract Self-Portraits
Our talented Year 3 and 4 students have recently completed a series of abstract self-portraits inspired by the dynamic works of Dutch artist Marten Jansen. By embracing Jansen’s innovative use of shapes and vibrant colours, our students have delved into the expressive power of art, exploring how colour, line, and form can reflect the uniqueness of their own identities. Through the medium of chalk pastels, they experimented with different techniques to capture their individuality, resulting in a stunning collection of self-expressions.
This activity encouraged the students to move beyond the constraints of realism, inspiring them to think creatively and see their reflections in a new light. In doing so, they learned that art isn't just about what we see—it’s about how we envision the possibilities and potential within ourselves. The finished works are a true testament to their creativity, skill, and confidence as budding artists, and we couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments. These abstract self-portraits serve as a powerful reminder of the limitless potential of artistic expression.
