Congratulations to our Year Prep students who have completed a term of school!
Dear Families,
Welcome to our Issue 4 of our iNewsletter! We hope this newsletter continues to keep you up to date with all the news, events and learning that happens at St Roch's.
As we approach the end of this Term, we acknowledge the many wonderful events that we have enjoyed. We have had an amazing term with many opportunities to gather. We thank our staff for their commitment as always and their tireless efforts to provide explicit and engaging opportunties for your children to grow spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally.
Congratulations to our Year 5 students, Louise Bolton & Matt Crowe for an outstanding showcase of learning at Friday's Assembly. So many areas of our curriculum were shared and the way these students spoke on stage was exceptional. Well done to our budding leaders!
Thank you to those parents who attended Kristy Elliott's session last Thursday evening. Please refer to the Wellbeing Page for more information. Thank you to the parents who have emailed the following feedback:
Thank you so much for last night’s session—it was so relevant and in line with our goals for teaching and raising our kids. Kirsty provided practical communication and connection examples which was really helpful, and it’s so great to see that the school is incorporating these philosophies!!
Kristy provided a fantastic insight into the power of restorative practices. It's not about managing behaviour by simply telling a child what to do (or not do), it's about understanding the reasons behind the behaviour. We all deserve empathy and the right to be heard, but we also need to take accountability for our actions and the consequences they may have on other people. It was interesting to hear the different ways she supports schools in resolving conflict and helping children build resilience - I will definitely be using a few of her techniques at home!
Hopefully this session is the start of many more throughout the school community!! The content delivered by Kirsty Elliot was informative and essential in fostering a positive and respectful school environment. Focusing on repairing and nurturing relationships between students, teachers and families is fundamental to student wellbeing and their ability to learn, including the development of accountability and empathy. Ideas on how to empathetically and reflectively listen to children (and to one another) was also invaluable.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Eckardt family on the passing of Jorge's father (Mia Year 2) recently. We offer our condolences to Jorge, Mitzi and the whole family.
As we approach the Easter holiday, I want to take a moment to wish each and every one of you a happy and safe holiday. This is a time for reflection, renewal, and hope, and it is my sincere hope that each of you can find joy and peace during this special time. I would also like to take a moment to reflect on the past term and express my gratitude to each and every one of you for your hard work, dedication, and commitment to our school community.
We look forward to an incredible Term 2 with some special events that will celebrate 'mothers'. Please save the dates and note the event associated with Mother's Day events at St Roch's next term.
Please note that the Mother's Day Breakfast will commence at 8.30am, however, there will be photo opportunities with your child/chidren from 8.15am in the hall before you are escorted to the classrooms. Learning will begin at 8.50am for students and you will be able to gather in the hall for a wonderful breakfast organised by Bree Lynch and Bec Kirkwood and their team. A special surprise from our Year Preps will occur at 9.30am and while you are enjoying your breakfast. You are welcome to linger longer together. Please note that these events willbe live tomorrow.
Warmest regards,
Angie Mastoras
