Level 1

Wow. It is hard to believe that Term 1 of Grade 1 is already nearly complete. What a fun-filled term it has been. This last fortnight has been especially exciting, with the celebration of Harmony Day, Tennis Clinics, Class Museums, 3 Way Conferences and Gem Jar Rewards. We are so excited to finish the term with our MAD Day celebrations on Friday.

Harmony Day

On Monday the 24th, HEPS celebrated our communities’ diversity and culture on Harmony Day. Students were thrilled at our Monday morning assembly where an Indigenous artist performed on his digeridoo. Students loved learning about different cultural traditions and celebrations from around the world and adored collaborating with an older buddy grade.

Tennis Clinics

HEPS students love when Ben from Heathmont Tennis Club comes to teach us some wonderful Tennis skills! Level 1 learnt how to 'flip the pancake' using beanbags as well as many other fun skills during our time with Ben.

Class Museum

Literacy

Level 1 has been building our fluency, expression and the correct reading of punctuation during Fluency Pairs. Students have explored a range of procedural texts, looking at verb use, as well as sequencing words. They have used the 'looking ten times two' thinking routine to zoom in on the details of procedural texts as well to assist them in determining the author's purpose.

In Writing, students have enjoyed writing their own procedural text based on the hilarious book How to Wash a Wooly Mammoth. Students brainstormed their own ideas, drafted their procedure, self and peer-edited their writing before publishing their writing as a 'zine'. Students are so proud of their finished 'book'!

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have been continuing to practice and develop their place value skills. Students have also been learning about calendars and time.

We wish you all a safe and relaxing holiday break, and look forward to seeing students back at school on Tuesday the 22nd of April!
