Level 6

We're a great mix in Level 6!

A CELEBRATION OF LEARNING

This term has been filled with so many wonderful learning experiences, and we have loved seeing every student grow and shine throughout Term 1!

This term we have had Life Education, the Tennis Clinic, Harmony Day, Gala Days and soon, M.A.D day. We have loved all of the events held this term and can't wait to see what Term 2 holds.

Inquiry

In recent weeks, the Level 6 students have been busy creating their own BTN video focused on educating others about Sorry Day and NAIDOC week. Throughout the term, students have been watching different episodes of Behind The News (BTN), to keep up-to-date with recent news events. The BTN project has tied in with our Inquiry Topic of 'Australian History' and has been a fun and engaging way for students to engage with the topic. Be sure to ask your child about it!

Literacy

In the last 2 weeks, we have been finishing off our Novel Study of 'Tom Appleby, Convict Boy' by Jackie French. Students have been learning how to construct essays based on prompts from the story, and have explored how to write an essay using examples from the text. It has been a great challenge for students to learn a new writing format, and students have enjoyed engaging with the material. This week, we are also coming to the conclusion of our Informative Writing unit. Students have focused on writing explanation reports, using T.E.E.L to help them construct paragraphs. Next term we will be starting a new unit that is focused on Poetry and Persuasive writing. We are excited to see what comes from it!

Numeracy

To round off the term, students have been applying their skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division into solving equations using BIDMAS. You may know this as BODMAS or BEDMAS (Yes, times have changed and it is now referred to as BIDMAS!) Ask your child what the I stands for! Students have been enjoying solving different equations and showing their working out skills. Give this one a try at home, or maybe get your child to show you how. (11 + 4) x 3 - (20/5) = ?
