Science

With the end of Term finally here,  we are very sad to farewell Taryn Field from the science faculty. Taryn will, I am sure, help out on a casual basis, but her classes will miss her and so will her colleagues.

Mr Marshall is heading off to explore the outback for Term 2. His classes will be covered by Mrs Dhanoa over the term. We wish him and his family an exciting time as he gets to view the brilliant desert stars at night and the great Australian landscapes by day. What a wonderful trek for Term 2.

We are pleased to announce that we have a science teacher joining us from Sydney and there will be a few changes to classes as we adjust to the new situation.

Thank you to the parents who came into the college for Parent Teacher night. It was great to meet you and the teachers were all very happy to put a face to the parents. It is so important that we work together as a team to develop these children to be the best versions of themselves.

The Year 10 students will be working over the holidays as they collect data for their report results. Some families may have a very messy kitchen or laundry as students perform their designed experiments to answer their inquiry questions. We are looking forward to helping them finish off their reports in the week that they return for Term 2.

The Year 11 Chemistry students have been looking at the absorption and emission spectra and understanding what those little electrons like to do.  They have also been working with the quantitative side of chemistry so they know how to become cooks in Chemistry. They really enjoyed the flame tests with their new level of understanding.

Year 12 will be working very hard after Easter to summarise and develop mind maps and flash cards so that they are ready to do practice papers in earnest.

We wish you all a very happy and holy Easter and a well deserved rest.

Best wishes

Esther Dumbleton (Science Leader of Learning)
