Sustainability

Recently our classroom waste warriors and teachers have been discussing Nude Food with their classes and thinking about one change to help make their lunch boxes more Nude Food oriented.
Here are some ideas our Year 6 leaders are planning to do.
- Buy larger packets of chips - put a handful in a reusable container to bring to school. - Charlotte, Ollie
- Instead of small yoghurt pouches - buy a large 1 kg of yoghurt and put some in a reusable tub for your lunchbox - Issy
- Eat more homemade food other than packaged food - Noah, Ale
- Only get the 'recycle me' bags - Isla
- Instead of buying packaged cookies - bake them yourself - Lulu
- Bring containers with cut fruit - Archie
- Switch to metal or steel containers as they are more sustainable - Luca
- Buy in bulk - like from The Source Bulk Foods in Hampton - it comes in a brown paper bag - instead of plastic - Ms Michelle
What is 1 change you can do to help us have a more sustainable future?

Garden Club
This week, our keen St Mary's Gardeners enjoyed tasting the many varieties of lettuce and parsley that were planted in February. They enjoyed tasting the different leaves that were buttery, crunchy or bitter. Many students may even be asking for lettuce in their lunch now! Students have been involved in the planting and watering of the garden this term. Broccoli, spring onions and snow peas have been recently planted and we look forward to tasting those next term.
If you would like to help or lovely garden in some way, please let us know...we are seeking a composter, potting mix and student gloves.
Charlie D: I loved tasting all the different types of lettuce. I actually thought all lettuce tasted the same, but it doesn't. It tasted really good - especially the Butterhead lettuce.
Toby M: In garden club we have been planting lettuce, broccoli, flowers and tomatoes. On Monday in the last week of term the garden club tasted cos lettuce, iceberg lettuce, red coral lettuce and mignonette lettuce, normal parsley and curly parsley.
At the start of term we sold lemons and mandarins we earned a lot of money. Earlier that day we picked the lemons and mandarins.
It has been a really fun term, soon we are making a scarecrow. During the term we got homework about how to make a scarecrow. We needed to do a lot of watering. There is an acorn tree that drops a lot of acorns so Miss Michelle got an idea to play noughts and crosses with acorns. We decorated them and the tree stump. It was so much fun.
