Senior School News

This week, we are excited to showcase the wonderful learning happening in Grade 4! Over the past few weeks, our students have been exploring Australian history, Harmony Day, persuasive writing, multiplication, and division.
Australian History:
As part of our History unit, students have been delving into Australia’s past, with a strong focus on the First Nations peoples and early European contact. They have explored:
Life before European settlement—how First Nations Australians lived, their customs, traditions, and connection to the land.
Significant explorers—researching individuals who have shaped modern Australia.
- The impact of early contact—investigating the consequences of European arrival on First Nations communities.
Through research, discussions, and creative projects, students have gained a deeper appreciation of Australia’s rich and diverse history.
Harmony Day:
Harmony Day was a fantastic opportunity for students to celebrate cultural diversity and learn about the different backgrounds that make up our country. They explored various countries, cuisines, and sports, recognising how multiculturalism enriches Australia. Students participated in engaging activities that highlighted inclusivity and the importance of respect and harmony within our community.
Persuasive Writing:
In Writing, students have been developing their skills in persuasive writing using the TEEL structure (Topic, Example, Explain, Link). They have also been focusing on:
- Modal verbs and how they strengthen arguments.
- Emotive language to persuade and influence readers.
- Editing and publishing their work with care and attention to detail.
The effort and creativity in their writing pieces have been outstanding, and all students should be incredibly proud of their achievements!
Do you think kids under 12 should have social media? I certainly believe that they shouldn’t because, it has way too much inappropriate and violent content and pictures, it teaches bad behaviour to your kids, it is addictive and screen time is not good for them. So once you’ve read this you will agree. - Noah James
Social media is evidently very popular, even with kids under the age of 12. But the real question is, is it really that under-12 friendly? Well, the real answer is undoubtedly no, for under-12s are way too young, there may be inappropriate or violent content and most social media requires you to put in private information. Still don’t believe me? I only just started. Here are my reasons why.

I strongly believe that students should be able to choose their own seats, like do you want bored unhappy students? Because sure I don't and that's why I'm going to show you why. First, they can learn to make good choices, they can have more social time and if they get put into seats they might not get along with that person. - Eliza Norris
Firstly, students will be way more happy. Research shows that 95% of students won’t be happy if they are not with their friends.Students should be happy when sitting at their tables because they can get more work done.Students should definitely choose where they sit so they are happy.

Mathematics – Multiplication & Division
For the past month, students have been strengthening their skills in multiplication and division. They have been working on:
- Understanding times tables and number patterns.
- Solving word problems involving real-world scenarios.
- Exploring different strategies, including arrays, repeated addition, and fact families.
It has been wonderful to see students' confidence grow as they tackle increasingly complex problems with enthusiasm.
