Meet Our Staff

Lindsey Torr

Role at St Mary's

I’m a Learning Support Officer, which means I assist students in reaching their full potential by providing extra support in the classroom and targeted intervention programs. I work closely with teachers to ensure all children feel included, confident, and supported in their learning journey.

How many years have you been in education?

This is my third year in a primary school in Australia, before that I taught English as a Foreign Language in Germany and Ukraine and way before that, I worked in the Travel industry for many years in the UK.

What’s your favourite thing about St Mary's?

My favourite thing is how small and friendly the school is. Everyone is so caring and thoughtful, it’s a lovely place to work!

What’s your favourite food?

Anything Italian—pizza, pasta, gelato… I can’t choose just one!

What’s your favourite book?

So many! I’m an avid reader and always carry a book in my bag!I recently enjoyed “American Dirt” by Jeanine Cummins. My favourite children’s book is “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” because it’s a beautifully illustrated story about kindness, friendship, and hope.

What’s your favourite movie?

My favourite movies are usually musicals! I love Moulin Rouge, because of the costumes and songs. My favourite kids movie is probably Mary Poppins or Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory.

Who’s your favourite band/singer?

My favourite band is Cold Play, I was lucky enough to see them perform in Melbourne recently.

Do you support a sports team?

As a Brit, I’m a passionate supporter of Manchester United, although they’re currently experiencing more losses than wins! I also like rugby union and tennis.

What do you enjoy doing outside of school?

Outside of school, my family and I love exploring new places, going on long walks with our toy cavoodle, enjoying musical theatre, and, most importantly, spending quality time together.

If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday, where would it be?

If I could go anywhere in the world, it would be Finland to see the Northern Lights, staying in a glass cabin, with a cozy log fire, skiing, and surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

Tell us a joke!

Why did the Easter Bunny go to school? To get a little “egg”ucation!

How many years have you been in education?

This is my 14th year in education

What’s your favourite thing about St Mary's?

The beautiful community! I love how friendly and welcoming everyone is. The children enjoy bringing their parents into the classroom to share their work, and I always appreciate the chance for a quick chat with families at drop-off and pick-up.

What’s your favourite food?

My favourite food has to be seafood followed by Indian. If you haven't been to Southall on Hampton Street yet, you should definitely go!

What’s your favourite book?

My favourite book is All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. As for picture storybooks, I absolutely love Fox by Margaret Wild—it's a fantastic mentor text in the classroom. I’m also a big fan of podcasts, especially those about health, education, or true crime.

What’s your favourite movie?

My favourite movies are Top Gun, Dirty Dancing and Gladiator. I also recently enjoyed watching Maleficent with my daughter—definitely a nice change from Frozen on repeat!

Who’s your favourite band/singer?

Paolo Nutini, Stereophonics and you cannot go wrong with a bit of Tina Turner

Do you support a sports team?

The Cats! I also grew up supporting Manchester United (My Grandma was born in Manchester) but no longer follow soccer.

What do you enjoy doing outside of school?

Outside of school, I love spending time at the beach with my family.  I have also started running again after a long hiatus and am really enjoying it. I will be signing up for this year's Connor’s 10km Run to keep me motivated.

If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday, where would it be?

If I could go anywhere on holiday, I'd love to see the Northern Lights or go on a safari in Africa. For a quick beach getaway with my family, Noosa would be my top choice!

Tell us a joke!

Why did the Maths book look sad? Because it had too many problems!
