Homework
Thank you for your continued support in instilling a strong homework routine for your child. It is wonderful to see so many faces on our Mathseeds posters each week.
The expectation is 1 lesson of Mathseeds completed a week (Sunday - Saturday). Please remember that Sunday starts the new week.
The other homework expectation is reading 4 nights for 15 minutes. This is to be written in your child's diary and signed. Diaries should come to school every day.
Devices
Our Year 2 students really enjoy engaging with our programs (Maths Invaders and Reading Eggspress just to name a few). When your child forgets their iPad or it is on a low percentage/flat, this restricts their engagement. Thank you for your continued support in creating a home routine with your child which involves charging their iPad and placing it in their bag.

STAR Reading Assessment and AR Targets
Year 3 students sat their STAR Reading Assessment in Week 1 of Term 2. Every student now has an AR points target assigned. To reach this target it is important that they are reading at home within their AR range and are taking quizzes in the morning when they arrive to school. This term their progress with this goal will appear on their Student Dashboards. Please support your child by asking them to show you how they are tracking on the Renaissance website.

Reading
Last term, the Grade 4s did a fantastic job of completing their reading each night and filling in their diary. All students now have their new reading range and have started to work towards their Accelerated Reader points target. Please support your child to complete 30 minutes of reading per night and fill in their diary so that they can make progress towards their target each week.

Melbourne Zoo Excursion
We’re excited to let you know that Year 5 will be heading off on an excursion to the zoo as part of our science unit on animal habitats and conservation! To help make the day safe, fun, and successful for everyone, we’re looking for a few parent volunteers to join us. If you’re available to assist with supervising a small group of students, we’d love to have your support. It’s a great opportunity to be involved in your child’s learning and enjoy a memorable day out. Please contact your child’s teacher if you’re interested in volunteering.

Secondary School Placement
All Year 6 students have received the Secondary School Placement Form, which must be completed and returned to your child's teacher by Friday 9th May. We encourage families to visit the website of local secondary schools to learn more about the school, organise a tour, or attend Open Day events. Please see the links below for the details for Open Day for our three local high schools.
Year 6 Poetry Slam
We are excited to invite families to Level 5 for the (first ever!) Year 6 Poetry Slam on Thursday 22nd May from 9:30-11:00. We have begun our unit on Poetry and students will write many of their own poems in the next four weeks. At the Poetry Slam, students will have the opportunity to perform one of their poems in a cafe style setting in classrooms, which will include tea, juice and snacks for all! Please mark this date in your calendars as we would love to see you there.
