Term 4 Visual Art
What an exciting and busy term we have had in the Art Room. The students have loved exploring new materials and techniques to create some amazing work. We focused on self-portraits this term and also explored recycled art. I am very proud of the creativity, craftsmanship, problem solving and patience that students have put into their artworks.
Here are just some examples of what we have been busy working on this term.
Foundation
Worry Dolls
Foundation artists explored art from Guatemala. They learned how children receive tiny dolls to help with any worries they might have. Students then used a variety of different materials to create their own worry dolls. They had so much fun manipulating wire, shaping clay, threading beads and creating hairstyles.
Year 1 & 2
I am an Artist Self-Portraits
Year 1 and 2 artists incorporated the elements of Line, Shape, Colour and Space to create a self-portrait collage. They learned about the proportions of the face and practiced drawing the features of their face using a mirror for reference.
Year 3 & 4
Tropical Fish
Year 3 artists recycled the cereal boxes we use in breakfast club each week to make some amazing tropical fish. They explored the work of English artist Darrel Wakelam and learned about the concept of pure making. Coloured tissue paper was applied using the technique of decoupage, and line designs were added with acrylic paint markers.
Reyansh
Mosaic Turtles
Year 4 artists explored the work of Australian artist David Day and learned how he is making an impact by promoting environmental awareness through his art. They used recycled packaging materials and air drying clay to design and build a sea turtle. Students then used tiles to add a mosaic design to their turtle shell.
Year 5 & 6
Graduation Identity Portraits
Year 5 and 6 artists created an identity portrait to explore both their inner and outer identities. They focused on mixing skin tones, using gridlines to draw with proportion and creating a collage to demonstrate their personality. Each artwork featured a flap that could lift up to reveal a closer look at all of their favourite things.
Wishing all Wimba families a safe and happy holiday season.
