Grade 5/6 News

Wow, what an end to Term 4 we have had in Grade 5/6! The last few weeks have been action-packed as we finished off all of our learning units and celebrated the year that was.

In Literature, students studied 'Treasure Island' by Robert Louis Stevenson. Students used character maps to analyse the characters motivations and actions whilst learning about the history of piracy in the 18th century.

In English, students have been learning the structure of an Information Report whilst reading 'The Ice Forest'. Students have learnt the following tools to use in their writing to write their own information reports on a setting of their choice:

  1. Formal and precise; formal and friendly
  2. Use comparisons to make information real for the reader
  3. Using hyphenated compound adjective to make nouns sound special
  4. Suggestion of warning/danger about the setting to highlight a cause and effect

Below is an example of Gursimrat Sandhu's text entitled 'The Haunted Island'.
