Grade 3 News

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we come to the end of a wonderful year in Year 3, we would like to take a moment to reflect on the many exciting experiences, learning opportunities, and memories we have shared together.

We began the year as two Year 3 classes, and as our cohort grew, we welcomed a third class. This change was a positive one, allowing new friendships to form and strengthening our Year 3 community. The students showed great flexibility and maturity as they adjusted, and we are very proud of how well they supported one another.

Throughout the year, our students enjoyed a range of rich learning experiences both inside and beyond the classroom. A highlight was our visit to the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), where students had the opportunity to see artwork from the artist they had been studying in Art. This experience brought their learning to life and inspired thoughtful discussions and creative responses.

In STEM, our excursion to the Melbourne Museum allowed students to explore and observe different types of rocks up close, deepening their understanding of Earth and Environmental sciences and encouraging curiosity and questioning.

We also shared many meaningful whole-school and year-level experiences. Harmony Day and NAIDOC Week gave students the opportunity to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and respect within our school community. Students enjoyed learning about the importance of remembrance through ANZAC biscuit making, linking history with hands-on learning.

Our Year 3 students took part in swimming lessons, building confidence in the water and developing important life skills. Our first Athletics Day was another exciting milestone, giving students the opportunity to challenge themselves, demonstrate sportsmanship, and celebrate participation. This event also enabled some students to progress to district-level competitions, which was a fantastic achievement. The Fun Run was a highlight of the year, showcasing students’ enthusiasm and school spirit.

This year also marked an important academic milestone as students completed their first NAPLAN assessments. They approached this experience with focus, resilience, and a positive attitude, and we were very proud of the effort they demonstrated.

One particularly exciting moment for students was watching the new double-storey portable classrooms being craned into place, giving them a unique insight into how our school continues to grow and change.

One of the most memorable milestones of the year was our first school camp at Sunnystones. For many students, this was their first time away from home with school, and they approached the experience with courage and excitement. Camp provided opportunities for independence, teamwork, resilience, and plenty of fun, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

We are incredibly proud of the growth we have seen in our Year 3 students, academically, socially, and emotionally. Thank you to our families for your ongoing support throughout the year. It has been a pleasure working with your children, and we wish them all the very best as they move into Year 4.
