Term 4 Music

Foundation in Term 4 explored:

  • Students experimented with performance.
  • They developed their ensemble skills, including following conducting cues and learning what it means to be a principled performer.
  • Students continued to build their listening and responding skills to music, becoming aware of the elements of beat, rhythm, pitch, dynamics and tempo.
  • They deepened their understanding of audience behaviour and learn to provide meaningful feedback about the performances they experience.
  • Students explored musical dynamics, including soft (quiet)/loud, as well as fast and slow, and high and low sounds.

Year 1/2  in Term 4 explored:

  • Developing leadership skills throughout the process of ensemble playing, such as following conducting cues and learning what it means to be an ensemble member.
  • They consolidated their understanding of the concept of ‘pitch’ by exploring low and high pitch on a music stave through songs, games and notation activities.
  • Students continued to consolidate their skills in playing learned songs on the boomwhackers using the correct technique.
  • They engaged in songs and games to further consolidate their understanding of beat, pitch and rhythm.

Year 3/4 in Term 4 explored:

  • Students explored Instrumental Technique and Ensemble playing
  • Students began to learn how to assess, adjust and develop their singing, tuned and untuned percussion instrument techniques.
  • They explored the roles and relationships between composers, performers and audiences, and will develop their knowledge of the responsibilities individual musicians have when performing as an ensemble.
  • As audience members, students continued learning how to share critical feedback in response to a range of live and recorded musical stimuli.

Year 5/6  in Term 4 explored:

  • Assessing, adjusting, and developing their singing, drumming, and tuned percussion instrument techniques.
  • They investigated the roles and relationships of composers, performers, and audiences, while deepening their understanding of the responsibilities each musician holds when performing as part of an ensemble.
  • As audience members, students learned to provide thoughtful and constructive feedback in response to a variety of live and recorded musical performances.
  • Students created an ensemble arrangement for a performance.

Drums and Dance Ensemble performed in the mid-term assembly and will perform in the last assembly of the year. The students have worked so hard this year to put together these performances. They have developed a range of skills such as arranging skills, instrumental skills, rhythm skills and teamwork. I am continuously impressed with their commitment and self-drive to achieve all they have in such a short period of time.

Year 6 Graduation Performance

I could not be prouder of these students and their work ethic. They have all done an amazing job of learning the parts of the song and then arranging it themselves to create something unique for their cohort. Well done Year 6!
