Parent Opinion Survey Data from 2025

Late last year we received our preliminary data for the 2025 Parent Opinion Survey. Over the summer break, data became available to all government schools with comparisons to similar schools, network schools and the state averages. First of all, in 2025 we had an increase of family participation in the survey, so thank-you to every family who took the time to complete this important work. We use the data to look at things that are working well at our school and areas that need some improvement. 57 families participated in 2025. Overall, our results were extremely encouraging, with an increase in positive endorsement in all of the six modules compared to 2024. Below is a snapshot infographic of our overall results with comparisons to similar schools and the state averages, indicating higher positive endorsement to both markers.

Attendance Policy and Information

As part of our new four year strategic plan, attendance is one of our focuses. We are aiming to decrease the amount of days students are absent and or late for school.

A research project conducted by the University of Melbourne outlined the impacts of school attendance problems, see the image below.

Additionally, the school attendance guide outlines what is determined as “regular attendees”, “risk of chronic absence”, and “chronically absent”, see below.

Last week I sent through an updated attendance policy. This will also be added to our website for your reference. Here is a summary of the main aspects of the policy.

Attendance at Le Page Primary School – What Families Need to Know

Regular attendance is essential for your child’s learning, wellbeing and social development. By law, all children aged 6–17 must attend school every day unless an approved reason or exemption applies. Every day counts—across Victoria, the average student misses around 12 days per year, which can significantly impact learning.

School Hours & Punctuality

  • Line-up music: 8:55 am
  • Morning bell: 9:00 am
  • End of day: 3:30 pm
  • Office hours: 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Students should arrive before the 9:00 am bell, ready to learn.

  • If your child arrives late, they must be signed in at the office by a parent/carer.
  • If leaving early, students must be signed out at the office by a parent/carer.

Reporting Absences

Parents/carers must provide a reason for every absence, either before or on the day, via Compass.

Acceptable reasons include:

  • Illness or injury
  • Medical or dental appointments (where possible, outside school hours)
  • Bereavement or compassionate reasons
  • Cultural or religious observances
  • Family holidays (not encouraged during term time)

For frequent or extended absences, the school may request supporting documentation, such as a medical certificate.

Same-Day Follow-Up

If a student is absent and no explanation has been received:

  • The school will contact families before 12:00 pm on the same day.
  • Parents are expected to enter the reason in Compass as soon as possible.

Supporting Attendance

The school closely monitors attendance and punctuality. If patterns of absence or lateness arise, staff may contact families to work together on a support plan. This may include meetings, attendance or wellbeing plans, or referrals for additional support. Any exemptions or flexible arrangements must be approved by the Principal.

Attendance Recognition

Le Page Primary School encourages positive attendance habits through recognition programs:

  • 5-Week Attendance Cycles: Students with 0 days absence in a cycle may receive certificates, house points, or acknowledgements at assemblies or in newsletters. Each cycle is a fresh opportunity.
  • Weekly Class Punctuality Awards: Classes with the highest on-time arrival rates may receive trophies, extra reward time, or newsletter recognition.

We understand that illness and unavoidable absences do occur. Our goal is to work in partnership with families to support strong attendance habits and ensure every child has the best opportunity to succeed at school.

High Achiever Programs

Our high achievers program for 2026 has commenced for the year. We have twelve Year 5 and 6 students participating in the John Monash Science School’s outreach program in the Mini-Mathematician and Mini-Scientist streams. Later in the year some students will have the opportunity to participate in a robotics program at the school.

The Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP) has also started for the Year 5 and 6’s. We have seventeen students enrolled in either the English or Mathematics program.

Born to Soar has started up for the term, an enriching educational experience tailored specifically for high-ability students. This program is designed to nurture the unique talents of gifted learners by extending their academic thinking, stimulating curiosity, and promoting deep engagement in learning beyond the standard curriculum. Students in Years 3-6 can participate in this fee paying program and we hope to be able to offer an intake of Prep-Year 2 later in the year.

George’s Return

George will be returning to work on Tuesday the 10th of February after extended leave. He is ready to hit the ground running and is looking forward to reconnecting with the school community!

2026 Mission Statement

Every year our staff and students create their mission statement at the beginning of term. This aims to set the intention for our staff and students as well as operating as a reflective check-in tool at various times throughout the term and year. Your child would have already developed their mission statement for the year. I encourage you to learn what your child/children's mission statement is and even create your own or a family mission statement.

My mission statement for 2026 is

I aim to approach my work and relationships with calm, listen first, and act with integrity. I strive to build trust, support growth, and respond thoughtfully, even when things are challenging.

Again, thank-you for such a positive start to the year. The students have come back to school enthusiastic and ready to learn. We are looking forward to another great year at Le Page!
