Wonderful 1

One-derful Class Chronicles

Term 1 Week 2 2026 -  Friday 6th February

What have we been up to?

We have had a fantastic first two weeks in Year 1! The students have settled in beautifully and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow each day. They are already showing great enthusiasm for learning and are coming to school with big smiles and positive attitudes. We are very excited to jump into all learning and academic areas next week!

Over the past fortnight, we have been focusing on establishing routines and expectations. The children are learning how our classroom runs, including morning routines, transitions, and learning behaviours, which is helping them feel safe, calm, and ready to learn. We have also begun learning about the 7 Habits, which guide our school and classroom expectations, while students continue to get to know their teachers and build strong relationships.

Specialist lessons also began this week and the students have absolutely loved them! They have enjoyed Art with Mrs Bradley, PE with Mr Bradley, Leader in Me lessons with Mrs Telegin, and Sport and Music with Mr Earl. This year, Auslan and Health will be taught in the classroom with Mrs Taylor on Wednesdays.

It has been a wonderful start to the year, and we are so proud of how well the students are engaging across all areas 🌟

Reading & Writing

We will begin exploring Adventure Narratives. Our first book is Alfie’s Search for Destiny. Students will practise a variety of comprehension skills such as making connections and retelling events in order. We will also start looking at the structure and features of adventure narratives.

Maths

Over the next fortnight, we will begin exploring Data. Students will focus on tally marks and how we use them to collect information. We will then look at how we can represent and interpret data in different ways.

Inquiry

In our Year 1 Geography unit, Local Places: Natural, Managed & Constructed, students explore special places in their local area. They learn about natural, managed, and built features, how places change over time, and how people, including First Nations Australians, care for them. Students will ask questions, create maps, and share their discoveries through drawings and explanations. The unit includes hands-on activities, stories, and resources to make learning about places fun and engaging.

Important reminders:

  • Please don’t forget to bring in your hats and water bottles as we have had and will be having more hot days.
