What's Happening At Milgate!

Acknowledgement of Country

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People, and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

Milgate’s Vision

To provide a dynamic, inclusive learning environment that challenges students to become inquirers, thinkers and caring young people who are able to interact in the global society with respect and intercultural understanding.

Last Day of School Reminder

Families are reminded that the school day on Friday ends at 1:00pm.

Year 6 families are invited to attend our special farewell assembly in the stadium from 12:15pm.

Bondi Beach Tragedy

Today we, together with the whole of Australia, share in the grief that follows the appalling events at Bondi Beach yesterday.

We send our condolences to the families of those who died, we express our love for any in our school community directly impacted by these events and acknowledge that we are all affected by what occurred.

We say to our Jewish families and to our whole school community that these events only strengthen our resolve to do all we can to address and eliminate any and all forms of anti-Semitism.

If you think your child would benefit from additional support, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Year 6 Graduation

Congratulations to our magnificent Year 6 students on their graduation!

Last week’s ceremony was a wonderful celebration of who they are as learners, leaders and young people. Our students spoke with confidence, supported one another, and represented Milgate with maturity, kindness and genuine joy. We were incredibly proud to see the way you carried yourselves (and performed!) on stage and throughout the evening.

To our Year 6s – thank you for the many ways you’ve contributed to our school over the years. We wish you every success and happiness as you begin your secondary school journey, and we hope you look back on your time at Milgate with pride, gratitude and lots of special memories.

Special thanks to our Year 6 team, staff and parents involved in making this the special event that it was!

2026 Classes and School Map

Congratulations to all students for the positive and resilient way they navigated today’s Stepping Up Day!

Meeting a new teacher and classmates is a significant change event, and it was wonderful to see so many happy, excited faces across the school.

I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our Milgate staff for the many hours of thoughtful work that have gone into building next year’s classes. We truly appreciate the professional care taken to balance student needs, wellbeing and learning.

Thank you as well to our families for the valuable input provided in supporting your children to identify positive friendships for learning. Your partnership helps us create the best possible environment for every child to thrive.

Having served as teachers and senior members of the school's leadership team for more a decade, Sarah Brown (PYP Coordinator) and Megan North (Language Arts) have written farwewll messages for our community below:

Dear Families,

After 16 years at our school, the time has come for me to say farewell.

It has been a great privilege to work in our school community, most recently in my role as IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator. Working alongside our dedicated teaching staff, and partnering with families to support your children’s learning has been deeply rewarding. I have had the joy of seeing students grow as learners and as people, developing curiosity, confidence and a strong sense of who they are in the world.

The PYP’s emphasis on inquiry, conceptual understanding and international-mindedness is something I have been proud to champion. Together, we have nurtured a learning community where students are encouraged to think deeply, act with compassion and strive to make a positive difference.

While I look forward to the next chapter in a new school, I will always treasure the strong sense of community that defines this school.

Thank you for your support, partnership and kindness over the years.

Warm regards,

Sarah Brown | IB PYP Coordinator

Dear Milgate Community,

After eleven years at Milgate Primary School, it is time for me to say goodbye to a community that has truly felt like a second family. During my time here, I have worked as a classroom teacher and in curriculum leadership roles, alongside colleagues who care deeply about one another and, most importantly, about our students. The students I have taught over the years have been at the heart of everything I have loved about my time at Milgate.

Milgate has always been a place where relationships matter. The collective care, professionalism, and shared commitment of the staff to improving student wellbeing and learning outcomes has been the driving force behind everything we do. Reflecting on my time at Milgate has made me deeply aware of the professional and personal growth that has taken place over these years.

I am incredibly grateful for the trust, collaboration, and friendships formed over the years. Thank you to the staff, students, and families for the support, memories, and growth that I will carry with me. I leave Milgate with deep gratitude for the relationships, learning, and shared commitment that have shaped my time here.

Warmest regards,

Megan North

Year 5 Maker's Market

Last week, our Year 5 students held the annual Milgate PS Maker's Market. The Maker's Market presents our students with the opportunity to engage in a rich learning experience that supports understanding within the following:

Central Idea: Economic activity relies on systems of production, exchange and consumption of goods and services

Lines of Inquiry:

1.) Consumer needs or wants influence supply and demand

2.) Consumer choice is influenced by a range of factors that have impacted people and the earth.

3.) Financial issues and inflation can affect socio-economic status.

With the challenge of creating a stall and products that will broadly engage a student population, our Year 5 students are to be commended for the positive ways in which they engaged with students from F-6 in a bid to sell their hand-crafted products.

We are delighted to announce that close to $4000 was raised for the Ronald MacDonald House Charity which aims to, "Help keep sick kids close to their family this Christmas."

Mobile Phone Policy Reminder

**Please note that if a mobile phone or device is not stored as per the attached policy, the device will be confiscated on the spot and the student may not be allowed to bring the device to school.

A mobile phone is a telephone with access to a cellular (telecommunication) system, with or without a physical connection to a network. For the purpose of this policy, “mobile phone” refers to mobile phones and any device that may connect to or have a similar functionality to a mobile phone such as smart watches that are NOT in ‘school mode’. School mode refers to a device that does not have connectivity to a cellular network during school hours.

In accordance with the Department’s Mobile Phones — Student Use Policy issued by the Minister for Education, personal mobile phones must not be used at Milgate Primary School during school hours, including lunchtime and recess, unless an exception has been granted. Where a student has been granted an exception, the student must use their mobile phone for the purpose for which the exception was granted, and in a safe, ethical and responsible manner. All families are encouraged to familiarise themselves with our school's Mobile Phone Policy below:

TEACHER PRESENCE

Milgate teachers can participate in Teacher Presence, an initiative where families donate to a charity chosen by their teacher instead of giving traditional end of year gifts. Check if your child's teacher is registered at www.teacherpresence.org. Participation is optional, and we’re grateful for all your support!
