Wellbeing at St John's

Welcome back to a new school year! As we return to our classrooms and routines, we recognise that this time can bring a mix of excitement, nerves and everything in between—for students, families and staff alike. Our focus on wellbeing remains at the heart of all we do, supporting children to feel safe, connected and ready to learn. We encourage families to keep open conversations at home, notice how children are settling in, and reach out if support is needed. Together, we look forward to a year filled with growth, kindness and moments of joy.

Wellbeing Role

This year, my role has transitioned to a dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing position. I will be out of the classroom for three days each week, allowing me to be more available to support students and families in all areas of wellbeing. During this time, I will be working with students in our Wellbeing Hub, providing proactive and responsive support to help them regulate, reset and build lifelong wellbeing skills. I will also be working closely with our future leaders across the school, supporting student voice, connection and leadership. I will continue teaching in 5/6A and 5/6B one day each per week, maintaining strong connections with students. Parents and carers are warmly encouraged to reach out if they have any wellbeing questions or concerns.

St John's Wellbeing Hub

Introducing Our Wellbeing Hub

We are excited to share the launch of our new Wellbeing Hub— a dedicated space available to all students when they need it. The Hub has been thoughtfully created as a place of calm, peace and mindfulness, where students can pause, reset and regulate before returning to learning. The room includes workstations, puzzles and games to support brain breaks, along with quiet areas for reflection and self-regulation. The Wellbeing Hub is a proactive space designed to nurture mental health and wellbeing, helping students build the skills they need to thrive both emotionally and academically.

I will be working in the Wellbeing Hub three days a week, supporting students and guiding them in using the space effectively. We will also be opening the hub during some lunch times as an alternative break time option for students.

MHIPS (Mental Health in Primary Schools)

Our school is pleased to be involved in the Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHIPS) initiative, which supports schools to strengthen student mental health and wellbeing. Through MHIPS, we will have access to professional guidance, resources and support to help build staff capacity and respond early to student wellbeing needs. This initiative complements the work already happening in our school, including our Wellbeing Hub and whole-school wellbeing approach, and helps ensure students are supported in a proactive, consistent and caring way. MHIPS plays an important role in fostering safe, connected learning environments where all students can thrive.

Wellbeing sits at the heart of who we are at St John’s. When students feel safe, supported and connected, they are free to grow, learn and shine. Through our shared commitment—between students, families and staff—we are creating a school community where emotions are understood, voices are heard and everyone belongs. Thank you for continuing to walk alongside us at St John’s as we strive to nurture confident, resilient and compassionate learners.

Wishing you a week filled with moments of gratitude. Please reach out if I can help with anything.
