What's Been Happening Around Wembley
Response to Intervention
Response to Intervention (RTI) Update
Wembley Primary School has recently made changes to our Response to Intervention (RTI) model to ensure we continue providing timely, targeted support for students who need it. As part of this shift, our RTI program is now administered by our Education Support staff, with leadership oversight from Georgia Soans and support from Vanessa Hancock as part of our Inclusion Team. The program focuses on structured, phonics‑based literacy intervention in the junior years. To support consistency across the school, teachers and Education Support staff in Years 3–6 have also been provided with targeted phonics resources to strengthen phonemic knowledge where needed. Families of students identified for the program will be contacted in Week 1 of Term 2.
Alongside RTI, all classrooms at Wembley continue to implement a coordinated range of supports and adjustments, including small focus groups, differentiated learning tasks, ongoing teacher monitoring, and regular leadership oversight. This whole‑school approach ensures every student receives the right support at the right time.
Staff Professional Learning
As we work towards our Annual Implementation Plan, our staff are engaging in peer observation and coaching models. Our core focus is developing a deeper understanding of the Victorian Teaching Learning Model 2.0 and how we use evidence-based teaching practice to enhance learning outcomes for all students. Our observational rounds have begun, and we look forward to reflecting on our progress in Term 2.
Early in Term 2, our Curriculum Day will centre around 'Responsive Teaching' and goal setting. We will engage in learning around the VTLM 2.0 practice guides to support the cognitive science behind how students learn. We will then integrate this new knowledge into refreshing and aligning our whole school goal-setting practices.
Homework Policy
As a part of our Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment work, we are in the process of updating our school Homework Policy and aligning homework practices across the school. We aim to reflect upon and redefine our policy around expectations for all parties (teachers, students, parents/carers) in how we set, complete, monitor and respond to homework. Stay tuned for an update later in the year.
Digital Device Use
In response to new guidelines around device usage in schools, teachers in our upper school are ensuring that student screen-time is limited across the day to a 90-minute maximum. This policy is set to be introduced across schools by 2027, however, we have made the decision at Wembley to begin now. In combination with our ICT student agreements, we can support learning whilst reducing potential negative effects. The limited time exposure means that digital technology is being used intentionally in the classroom to support learning where appropriate.
