Junior School

Mr Simon Fairall - Deputy Principal, Junior School

Welcome to Week 2 and to our first Junior School newsletter for the term. It has been a positive and settled start across our classrooms, with students returning ready to learn, reconnect, and engage in all that the term brings.

At the heart of our work this year is a continued commitment to student wellbeing and learning through our Triangle of Focus: Regulation, Readiness, and Connections. This framework underpins everything we do in the Junior School and ensures that each child is supported to thrive - not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well.

  • Regulation – We explicitly teach and embed Berry Street Education Model strategies to help students be calm, focused, and emotionally ready to learn. When students are regulated, they are better able to engage, persist, and respond positively to challenges.
  • Readiness – Our approach to learning emphasises organisation, preparation, and attention. Drawing on the work of Nathaniel Swain and Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, we support students to develop strong habits that set them up for success in every lesson.
  • Connections – Positive relationships remain at the centre of our school culture. We prioritise strong, respectful connections between students and staff so that every child feels known, valued, and motivated to be part of our learning community. Within this, we continue to promote a culture of being “upstanders, not bystanders”—encouraging students to show courage, kindness, and responsibility by supporting one another and speaking up when something is not right.

Junior School Leadership Announcements

A highlight of the week will be our Junior School Assembly on Monday, where we will formally announce our Student Ambassadors and Library Leaders for 2026. These students have been selected for their commitment to service, leadership, and positive contribution to our school community.

Our Ambassador program continues to grow in both scope and impact, with portfolios including service and community, performing and creative arts, environment and sustainability, and student wellbeing. We look forward to seeing our Year 6 leaders guide these areas with enthusiasm and integrity, supported by students across Years 3–6.

We congratulate all students who have been appointed and thank them in advance for the leadership they will demonstrate throughout the year.

Uniform Reminder

As we move into cooler mornings while still experiencing warm days, families are reminded of our non-seasonal uniform approach. Students may wear either summer or winter uniform at any time of the year, provided it is worn in its full and correct version.

This flexibility allows families to make practical decisions based on weather conditions and student comfort, while maintaining high standards of presentation. We appreciate your support in ensuring that students wear the complete uniform rather than a mixture of the two.
