A message from our Principal
End of Term 1!
Congratulations to everyone for a hugely successful term 1! It’s amazing how much we can pack into 10 weeks. The highlight of term 1 is always the Summer Fair (see ‘Council Corner’, however, the learning programs have been impressive and our year 5/6 Camp to Coonawarra was a huge success.
Can I wish everyone a safe and happy term break filled with lots of family time and hopefully some well earned rest.
Learning Stretch
Over the past six months, our teaching and learning focus has centred on “Learning Stretch,” which has become one of the four key pillars of our ‘High Level Engagement’ strategy. Ensuring that every child is appropriately challenged is a priority we pursue with intention and energy each day. This is a complex task, as students enter each learning area with varying levels of readiness that can differ significantly across subjects.
Teachers play a critical role in calibrating this stretch—designing learning that is both achievable and aspirational. A key part of this work is creating classroom environments where students feel safe to experience challenge, grapple with difficulty, and persist through moments of struggle. These experiences are essential for deep learning and are intentionally built into classroom practice. The use of specific codified teaching techniques help enable to students to think more deeply about key ideas.
Alongside this, we are continuing to strengthen a culture grounded in growth mindset, drawing on the work of Carol Dweck. Students are encouraged to view effort as a pathway to improvement, embrace challenges, and understand that learning is a process of continuous growth. This mindset supports students to move confidently into their “challenge zone,” where meaningful learning occurs.
At MPPS, we are fortunate that students already value learning and actively engage in classroom tasks. Building on this strong foundation, we prioritise establishing a consistent culture of challenge and growth in every classroom, particularly at the beginning of each year. This ensures that all students are supported to extend themselves, develop resilience, and achieve their full potential.
School Uniform Policy
Just a quick reminder to check our current Uniform School Policy. It’s designed to make life easier and cheaper for parents as well as build a sense of belonging and pride amongst our students. The main point to note relates to footwear. It really is the main issue we face regularly. Please note that shoes need ‘to be primarily black, navy or white in colour.’ Small coloured logos etc are fine. You’ll find the policy at:
