News from Year 5/6

Sovereign Hill Camp

As we look ahead to our upcoming Sovereign Hill camp later this term, we encourage families to begin preparing for this exciting experience.

Please ensure that all dietary requirements and any other important medical or personal information are up to date on nForma. This helps us to support every student safely and effectively while on camp.

If there is anything additional you would like us to be aware of, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us by phone or email.

We look forward to a fantastic camp experience for all students!

English Update

Students are nearing the completion of our class novel War Horse. It has been wonderful to see their engagement and thoughtful responses throughout this unit.

Following this, we will begin our next text, Black Cockatoo / Dirrarn by Carl Merrison and Hakea Hustler. This text will provide rich opportunities for discussion and learning, particularly around culture, history and perspective.

Homework Term 2

Homework will resume again next term. This will continue to focus on reading, times tables and spelling, helping students to build consistent routines and develop responsibility for their learning.

Thank you for your continued support at home.

Maths News

Over the coming weeks, Year 5/6 will be engaging in a range of mathematics topics, including fractions, 3D objects, decimals, probability, and location and transformation.

This sequence of learning will build students’ understanding across number and space, while developing their problem-solving skills and confidence in applying mathematical concepts.

Schools ANZAC Day Ceremony

Our school will be attending the annual Schools ANZAC Day Ceremony at the Upper Yarra RSL on Wednesday 6th May.

This is a special opportunity for students to come together with other local schools to honour and remember the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country. Students will take part in a respectful ceremony that helps deepen their understanding of the importance of ANZAC Day.

Wesburn Primary School has the honour of leading the ceremony this year as MCs.

Further details, including times and any requirements for the day, will be shared once final arrangements have been confirmed.
