Writing
Students began the term by exploring the structure and language features of factual recounts. Using scaffolds, they brainstormed and selected topics for their paragraphs, focusing on the most memorable moments from camp. They were encouraged to choose precise and engaging vocabulary to bring their writing to life. Drafting of their recounts began on Friday—below are some snapshots of their work so far!
My favourite activity was the tread wall, how I manoeuvred to make my high score 2:20. I was so excited. ~ Blake
My third favourite thing was the treadwall; it's pretty much just rock climbing but a conveyor belt. The rocks were going down and we went up. I couldn’t do it quite well, but I’ve never rock climbed before, so for me, I did well. It was more entertaining to watch than to do, to be honest. ~ Sophie
I went canoeing with Mrs Traynor and Rory. I veered my canoe. ~ Ally
Then we did archery. In archery you use a bow and arrow to shoot targets. You have to be careful to shoot the target. I loved archery. ~ River
Then we did canoeing. I was with Teagan. It was scary but it was fun. We nearly tipped over, but luckily we didn’t. ~ Louisa
Mathematics
In Mathematics this week, we continued using arrays to explore multiplication and division facts for 3, 4 and 6, creating and interpreting these to build a deeper understanding of how numbers are connected.
As we move through this learning, our focus is not just on getting the right answer, but on developing fluency with multiplication facts over time. Fluency means being able to recall facts quickly and confidently while also understanding what those facts represent. This is a gradual journey, and each small step makes a difference. You can support your child at home by engaging in short, regular practice in fun and low-pressure ways. This might include asking quick “fact of the day” questions, practising while driving or setting the table, or using games and apps that focus on times tables. Our aim is for students to build a strong foundation now, so they feel confident and fluent with a wide range of multiplication facts as they move into the upper primary years.
ANZAC Wreaths
Fine motor skills of cutting, folding and glueing were put to the test on Friday to make some wreaths to commemorate ANZAC Day. Don't they look fabulous!
