Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...
This Friday, the Preps enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the South Melbourne Market. The children explored a wide variety of stalls, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the market while discovering the different goods on offer. They learned about the people who work there and the important role the market plays in our local community. The excursion was a fantastic opportunity to connect our classroom learning to the real world and build a deeper understanding of places and people in our community. The Preps represented the school beautifully and should be very proud of themselves.

In English, we will be delving into our exciting ‘Blast to the Past’ unit this term. This week, our Year 1 students had a fun and engaging introduction to the topic through our Dinosaur Diggers incursion. Students worked like real palaeontologists for the day to uncover hidden dinosaur fossils. They showed great persistence and teamwork as they carefully chipped, brushed, and broke away clay to reveal their fossils. We had so much fun bringing our learning to life and cannot wait to continue exploring the past together! Be sure to take a look at some of the photos of our young fossil hunters in action.

Our Year 2 students were fluttering with excitement as their class was visited by butterflies and other insects as part of their minibeast incursion! Armed with magnifying glasses and boundless enthusiasm, they embarked on a thrilling journey of exploration as they uncovered the secrets of these magnificent tiny creatures. Through hands-on exploration and observation, the children got up close and personal with these wonderful critters. They gained a wealth of knowledge and are excited to apply their learning in their upcoming unit on insects.

Over the last two weeks, our Year 3 students have been learning about life cycles in Science. They recapped their knowledge of the life cycles of a frog, chicken and butterfly. To build upon their knowledge, they chose their own animal to make a hanging mobile of their life cycle. They used paper to make illustrations and labels for each stage. Each mobile was very detailed and creative.

In Maths, the Year 4 students have been learning about equivalent fractions and exploring how different fractions can represent the same amount. They have been highly engaged in hands-on learning activities, including playing partner games to practise matching equivalent fractions. To celebrate their learning, students ended the week by creating colourful “fraction flowers” to show different equivalent fractions in a creative way. Students have also continued building their confidence and fluency through regular times tables practise.

On the 12th May, the Year 5 students had a wild day at the Melbourne Zoo! During their workshops, they learned about how animals survive and adapt to their environments and how pollution can harm animals and their homes. A very exciting part of the day was getting to see the adorable new baby snow leopards! The students came back to school full of interesting facts and great ideas about how we can help protect endangered animals. A huge thank you to our amazing parent volunteers - we are so grateful for your help and support.
On Thursday this week, Year 6 students participated in our Poetry Slam. Students have been studying poetry throughout our Sister Heart novel study, a text written in verse poetry in the perspective of a child of the Stolen Generation.
It was amazing to see the confidence and creativity fill Level 5 during the performances. Students demonstrated excellent courage when sharing their poems in front of their peers and families. Year 6 students should be incredibly proud of the efforts they put into both their writing their poems and their presentation skills. We thank any family members who were able to come along to support students!
