Principal Message

Dear Families and EMC community,
Term 2 has certainly begun with a hive of activity across the college. We have had a number of sports teams out and some fantastic results. One piece of feedback we always receive is how wonderful the behaviour of our students are, this is always the best news to hear and reflects our college values and community pride.
This time of year is exceptionally busy for our careers team, I encourage all parents of Year 9 - 12 to keep an eye out for information sessions regarding course counselling and career pathways. At EMC we have a large range of subjects and programs on offer, it is imperative that students and parents carefully read our subject selection handbooks, attend the relevant information and course counselling sessions.
Last week 40 Yr 9 students and 4 staff spent the week in Tasmania. The camp was a huge success and staff could not speak highly enough of the students who attended and represented both themselves and the college to an exceptional standard. It was an important week at Port Arthur and the opportunity to be present and understand the emotional impact from its history reflects the importance of students attending camps and excursions at school.
Next week we have a college curriculum day on Wednesday. Our staff, along with some staff from our local primary schools are spending the day with Dr Bill Rogers. Dr Bill Rogers is highly regarded for his work around behaviour management within the classroom and his commitment to a skills-based approach to discipline. We are looking forward to building new skills to continue ensuring that we create safe and engaging learning spaces for all students.
Our student leaders, Max Dahlstrom, Kiara Mavondo, Precious Jones, Abby Melrose, Maddie Lupica attended an ANZAC Commemoration service at the Langwarrin Community Centre. They presented two poems, lowered and raised the flags and layed a wreath at the cenotaph. Students at the college completed a range of activities in class and acknowledged the sacrifice of our ANZACs.
Our VCE students are in the final weeks of Unit 1 and Unit 3 learning and assessment. It is important to reiterate that a consistent study and wellbeing routine is important to maintain throughout the entire year. As the term progresses, universities will begin to offer open days and information sessions. Just like when parents begin considering primary and secondary schools, parents and students should be attending open days and looking at options and courses that they find interesting.
Kind regards,
Jodie Ashby
Principal
