District Athletics 2026: A Fantastic Day for Newlands

Congratulations to all the Newlands students who represented our school at District Athletics. It was a fantastic day, and every student should feel very proud of the effort, energy and positive attitude they brought to the event.

Our students did an amazing job throughout the day. They gave their best in every race, jump and throw, and they also represented Newlands beautifully when they were not competing. It was wonderful to see them cheering for each other, supporting their teammates, showing respect to others and bringing such a positive spirit to the track.

A special congratulations to the 14 Newlands students who qualified for Divisions, the next stage of the competition. This is a huge achievement and a reflection of their effort, confidence and determination on the day.

At Newlands, we are very proud to see the culture around physical activity, sport and healthy competition continuing to grow. More and more students are showing enthusiasm for getting involved, trying new activities, representing the school and challenging themselves to do their best. This is something worth celebrating, because sport is not only about winning or qualifying for the next level. It is also about participation, confidence, resilience, teamwork and learning how to give something a go.

Healthy competition can be a really positive experience for students. It helps them learn how to manage nerves, celebrate success, deal with disappointment, support others and understand that effort and attitude matter. These are important life skills that contribute to students’ overall wellbeing, both at school and beyond.

We are also very grateful to our families for supporting this growing culture of movement and participation at Newlands. Every time students are encouraged to be active, join a club, try a new sport, practise a skill, attend a school event or simply spend more time moving, they are building habits that support their physical, social and emotional wellbeing. Thank you to our families for continuing to encourage students to take part in these opportunities.

A big thank you also to the parent helpers who volunteered on the day and helped the event run smoothly. Thank you to the families who came along to cheer, support and celebrate our students. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the positive energy around the Newlands team made the day feel even more special.

Well done to all students for the way you represented Newlands. We are very proud of you.

Good luck to all our qualifiers as they prepare for the next round.

¡Vamos Newlands!
