Spotlight on Learning Eucalyptus

In Eucalyptus, Year 4 students have been learning about three dimensional structures in mathematics. Students have been identifying the features of prisms and pyramids, such as faces, vertices and edges. They have explored cylinders, cones and spheres by looking at their curved and flat surfaces and boundaries. Students have created sketches of rectangular prisms and pyramids, showing depth, and practised drawing three-dimensional objects from different views, including top, front and side perspectives.
Students have also learned to use isometric grids to draw different views of objects made from connecting cubes, and have interpreted these drawings to build models, reasoning about spatial visualisation as they work. This hands-on approach is helping students develop strong spatial reasoning and an understanding of how shapes exist and move in space.
