Music with Emily 

In music the P/1 and 2/3 classes have been discovering the music of Camille Saint-Saens. Each week they have heard a different piece from the suite of animal songs in Carnival of the Animals. 

They have practised hopping and lounging like kangaroos. Stomping and swinging trunks like elephants. They have been pecking and clucking along to the piece depicting hens and roosters and running like speedy animals to the piece about the wild asses. 

They have begun a deeper study of the much-loved Tortoise song. We have discussed the musical joke Saint-Saens was telling by using the very fast can-can melody in a much slower way to describe the movement of a big, slow tortoise. Using scarves, they’ve followed the pitch and tempo of the music, moving their bodies and dancing their scarves to the feel of the song. Body percussion has been learnt and used to help students feel the different time signature (3/4 time). 

Here they are practising to waltz in 3/4 time like in the tortoise song. Such great little dancers!

In the coming weeks they will be introduced to the shimmery sounds of ‘Aquarium’ and have a closer listen to the ‘Royal March of the Lion’.

Semester 1 Music Performance

Semester 1's whole school music performance has been inspired by our Musica Viva incursion earlier this term. The performed radio show, 'We're on Air' has lead to songs and jingles being learned and reimagined in music classes, ready for our own performance. 

Families and community members joined our students for an afternoon of singing and playing for 'Children Sing' this week.  We also hosted two special encore performances for families of children from Lakeview Kindergarten.  Our students were so happy when some of our kinder friends joined in with the songs they knew.
