Assembly

Year 6 Presenting:

This morning our Year 6 students presented at our first assembly since week 1 of term 3. The class have been working diligently, exploring the novel Skellig by David Almond.

"As we read, we discovered that Skellig explores themes of hope, protection, friendship, change and transition. We also noticed that Almond uses symbols to help us understand these ideas. Darkness and light, birds and wings, the garage, nature and the changing seasons all represent deeper meanings within the story.

Michael, the main character, also changes as the story unfolds, and we explored how these themes and symbols connect to his journey.

Each of us chose a theme or symbol from Skellig and created a drawing to represent our interpretation. We then explained our choices and how our artwork connects to the novel.

Today, we will share our artwork and some of our writing with you.

We hope you enjoyed seeing a bit of Skellig through our eyes; it was a story filled with mystery, unusual characters and some very big ideas and we all really enjoyed reading it. Thank you."
