From the Principal

A very warm welcome to Term 3 and I hope the opportunity to spend some precious time with family and friends over the break was embraced by many. I would like to particularly welcome our new families and staff to our College.

During the holidays, I shared the very sad news that, after courageously battling a complex illness for some time, our Year 11 student, Kate Wagner, passed away. Kate battled chronic illness with determination and an incredible spirit and we give thanks for all that Kate brought into this world. It is with the deepest sympathy that our thoughts and prayers continue to be extended to the Wagner family and we pray that they are comforted by the knowledge that Kate is safely enveloped in God’s loving arms.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of Kate’s friends for their loving care and support for Kate throughout her long illness and I extend my thanks to the entire Year 11 cohort for the respectful and dignified way they prayed, reflected and supported each other this week.

Finally, I extend my thanks to our generous community who have rallied in a variety of ways to provide support for the Wagner family and each other.  Difficult times highlight a community’s strength, and the John XXIII College community has that strength in spades. Thank you for generously supporting one another.

Eternal rest grant unto Kate, O lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May Kate rest in peace.
