Year 5  News

There’s been so much going on for the Year 5 Eco Warriors this term!

Alex from the Eco Centre came to visit us and helped set up our compost and worm farm. We learnt all about the importance of keeping the right balance between nitrogen and carbon and how this helps the compost break down properly.

Poppy and Max contacted the council to ask for food scrap bins and they have already been delivered! We designed new labels for each bin and delivered them to every classroom. Now the whole school can start collecting food scraps, which we will add to our compost and worm farm. We’re also looking forward to selling worm wee to our community—it’s going to be great for people’s gardens!

Some of us have also been taking part in the Little Earthies program. Little Earthies is an organisation that teaches kids how to look after the environment and helps us gain the skills and ideas to make a positive difference. We’ve learnt so much about sustainability and are excited to put our learning into action.

In just two weeks, eight of our Eco Warriors will be going to the Port Phillip Sustainability Festival to present one of our school’s ideas. We feel very proud to be able to share what we’ve been working on and we can’t wait to tell you all about it soon. o stay tuned!
