Learning Diversity News

Learning Diversity

Recently, we completed our Term 3 Program Support Group (PSG) meetings, where teachers, and a small number of families, met to reflect on progress and review goals for students with learning difficulties or disabilities. These meetings remind us how important the partnership between school and home truly is in helping children thrive.

At our school, we are committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed and thrive in their learning. To support this, we use a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), which allows us to meet the diverse needs of our students.

·    Tier 1: All students engage in high-quality teaching and learning within the classroom. Teachers use a range of strategies to support and engage every learner.

·    Tier 2: Some students may receive extra small group support or targeted intervention in addition to their classroom learning. This helps address specific skills or concepts where extra practice is needed.

·    Tier 3: A smaller number of students may require individualised and intensive support tailored to their unique learning needs or difficulties.

Families may notice that their child receives extra support at times, either in the classroom or through additional programs. This is a normal and important part of our approach to learning. By working in this way, we can ensure that all students, regardless of their starting point, are given the tools and opportunities they need to achieve their best.

Looking ahead, our Parent/Teacher Interviews will provide another valuable opportunity to discuss learning and social goals. These conversations strengthen the connection between families and teachers, ensuring we are working together to support the whole child. Look out for COMPASS Conferences notification in the coming week.

Parents who had PSGs this term, will not require a P/T interview.

Together, we are building a learning community where every child is supported, challenged, and encouraged to grow.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day (Monday 4th August 2025)

Although we did not formally acknowledge it this year, we are pleased to share that National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day will now be included in our school calendar. This important day has been celebrated annually since 1988 to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, build their confidence, and recognise their special place in community and culture. The date was chosen as it was historically used to celebrate the birthdays of children from the Stolen Generations who were taken from their families without knowing their birth dates. Next year’s theme, Little Footsteps, Big Future, highlights the journeys children take as they grow—guided by culture, community, and connection to Country. Families and staff can find resources and ideas for celebrating at SNAICC’s Children’s Day website.
