100 Days Smarter!

Last Friday, our Prep classrooms were full of very wise and wonderful “centenarians” as we celebrated 100 Days of Prep! The children looked adorable, with walking canes, grey hair, glasses, and plenty of outfits that made them look like they’d lived a full century. Our Prep teachers also appeared to have aged overnight, proof that teaching Prep is hard work!

The day was filled with fun activities all themed around the number 100. There was counting to 100, building towers with 100 cups, making paper chains, and even water experiments with exactly 100 drops! To mark this special milestone, everyone enjoyed a hot chocolate and shared morning tea, gathered together around the table to celebrate all they’ve achieved in their first 100 days of school.

It was a joyful day full of laughter, learning, and pride. Well done to our wonderful Preps on being 100 days smarter!

Grandparents & Special Friends Day

Last Friday afternoon, our school was filled with smiles, laughter, and love as we welcomed grandparents, parents, and special friends for our Grandparents & Special Friends Day.

The afternoon began with Year 5B leading a beautiful Prayer Gathering, setting the tone for an afternoon of gratitude and togetherness. Our wonderful office staff, Sue & Sue, organised afternoon tea for our guests to enjoy, and we were thrilled to see over 250 visitors join us for the celebrations.

Guests were then invited into classrooms, where the fun really began! There were games, including some very competitive card matches, portrait drawing, finger painting, and the sharing of beautifully handmade gifts from Outdoor Education.

The day was filled with stories, hugs, and special moments as children proudly shared their learning and their classrooms with the people who mean so much to them.

Congratulations, Neva!

Last term, we shared the exciting news that Year 6 student, Neva Brookshaw, was selected to represent Victoria in the U12 Female Kata Division at the Australian Karate Nationals in Adelaide.

Neva returned from Nationals, where she competed against 20 of the best young karate athletes in the country. While she didn’t come home with a medal this time, she had a fantastic competition, finishing an incredible 6th place in Australia! In her final round, Neva came so close to a bronze medal, narrowly missing out in a tight 2–3 result, a nail-biting moment for everyone watching!

The Nationals were huge, with 898 competitors from six states and events ranging from U10 right up to Senior divisions. Victoria proved to be the dominant state, taking home 154 medals, double that of second place, Western Australia!

Neva’s coaches were very happy with her performance, and she has been invited to remain in the Victorian State Team. She will continue her training and compete in the VKL competitions in the lead-up to Nationals in 2026.

Well done, Neva! We are so proud of your dedication, courage, and sportsmanship, and we can’t wait to follow your journey to next year’s Nationals.

Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education at Holy Cross for Semester Two is off to a fantastic start! Despite a few windy and drizzly days, students have been making the most of the outdoors getting into the garden and paddocks each day! The focus has been on our role as carers of the land, including preparing the veggie garden for spring, repainting signs for upcoming planting, and exploring the important role of our hardworking worm farm in supporting a sustainable garden. We've also been busy weeding, topping up soil, and learning about the feeding patterns of our growing young lambs. A highlight has been cooking with winter produce from the garden creating everything from Mint tea, Rosemary Salt and Bouquet Garni to delicious Slow Cooked Rhubarb!

Look out for regular Outdoor Education updates in the newsletter from our hardworking students.

Celebrating Our New Arrivals

We’re excited to share some very special news from Year 1, two of our Year 1 boys have recently become self-proclaimed “Famous Big Brothers!” Noah proudly welcomed his baby sister, Kleo (with a K!), and loves talking to her; he’s also convinced she’s already a big Ed Sheeran fan.

Jack welcomed his beautiful sister Ella on the 18th of July and couldn’t be happier. Congratulations to both families on their precious new arrivals.  Noah and Jack have been beaming with big brother pride!
