STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

During our staff development day this term our primary teaching staff had time to learn about the new PD/H/PE curriculum as we prepare for implementation 2027.  Over the next few years there is significant curriculum reform and we will take time to explore new syllabus documents for: Science and Technology, Human Society and Its Environment and Creative Arts.

Our staff recognise the fundamental importance of a comprehensive and balanced education. This includes a deep appreciation for the dedicated time allocated to English and Mathematics, as well as the significant role of Religious Education within our Catholic school. The recent professional development undertaken by our staff in the new NSW PD/H/PE syllabus further enhanced benefits these diverse learning areas offer to our students.

The educational landscape extends far beyond the classroom walls. In our rural setting, sport and physical activity are woven into the very fabric of our community life. Holy Trinity School champions the belief that engagement in sport and PE programs are integral to holistic student development. As reinforced by the new NSW PD/H/PE syllabus.

  • Movement Skill and Performance: Dedicated PE time ensures that all students, develop fundamental movement skills and refine their physical capabilities. This structured learning provides the building blocks for participation in a wide range of sports and lifelong physical activity.
  • Health, Wellbeing, and Participation: Sport offers a dynamic avenue for students to understand and actively engage in their own physical and mental health. It teaches invaluable lessons in teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship.
  • Personal and Social Capabilities: On the sporting field, students learn to communicate effectively under pressure, resolve conflicts, and lead by example.
  • Active Lifestyles: In an increasingly digital world, promoting active lifestyles is paramount. PD/H/PE equips students with the knowledge and motivation to make healthy choices and integrate physical activity into their daily routines, fostering habits that will benefit them far beyond their school years.

Physical activity has been shown to enhance cognitive function, improve concentration, and reduce stress, thereby creating students who are more focused, resilient, and ready to learn across all subjects.

Students are encouraged to continue embracing and supporting the diverse range of learning experiences offered, recognising that each plays a vital role in shaping well-rounded, healthy, and capable young individuals prepared for success in all their future endeavours.

This Term our Kindergarten students are taking part in a Pilates-based initiative with Ellen Adams from Movelogy. This is a fun, inclusive, and developmentally informed movement experience.

After their first session Ellen shared:  'The Kinder students were amazing listeners and performed the exercises so well and if it was difficult they gave it a try.' She was amazed with their knowledge on oxygen and carbon dioxide.

During Term 3 our 2 - 6 students will engage in skills across rugby leagues as well as netball and soccer leading up to the Diocese Gala Days during Week 10

Year 1 will engage in movement skills and will be supported by Chris Myers to enhance their fundamental movement skills.
