Subject Selection
Careers & Pathways Year 8 - 11
5:45pm - 8:15pm
Tuesday 29 July, 2025
As we approach the second half of the year, students in Years 8 to 11 will begin the important process of selecting their subjects for 2026. This is a key moment in each student’s learning journey - a chance to reflect on their interests, explore future pathways, and take ownership of their education.
To support families through this process they are invited to attend our Curriculum & Pathways Information Evening in July at the College. This event will provide students and their families with the information they need to make confident, informed decisions.
There will be year-level presentations outlining subject options and selection processes, as well as access to representatives from universities, TAFEs, apprenticeship providers, training organisations and others in our Pathways Hub.
In addition to this event, students have been engaging in Explore lessons focused on course selection, career planning, and subject research. These lessons will continue into early Term 3, helping students to make thoughtful and realistic choices.
During weeks 3 to 5, our students across Years 8 to 11 will be working with a teacher to select their program for 2026. Each year level will follow a slightly different process, as outlined briefly below.
Year 8 – Friday 15th August
Students will attend school as normal for the day. However, they will be excused from their class for a 15-minute timeslot throughout the day, to meet with their Transition Support Teacher to select their subjects.
Years 9 & 10 – Wednesday 6th August
All Year 9 and 10 classes will be cancelled for the day. Students are required to book and attend a 15-minute course subject selection interview, which will be held in the Senior Centre. Students in Year 10 are required to attend with a parent/carer.
Year 11 – Wed13th & Wed 20th August
Year 11 students will be completing their subject selection in their Explore classes throughout weeks 4 & 5. Their Explore teacher will conference with them to discuss their options for Year 12 in 2026, and any students who require extra support will be referred to the career practitioners.
We encourage all students to reflect carefully, speak with their teachers, and ask questions. Subject selection is not just about next year — it’s a step toward life beyond school.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Careers and Pathways team.
